After watching one of the worst british sitcoms of recent years in the last few weeks(BBC's THE WRIGHT WAY), im thinking that good british sitcoms are becoming a rarity.

The Ben Elton sitcom, The wright Way is so crap, i actually laugh, not at the sitcom, but how any commissioning editor on the BBC could think it was any good.

there is actually lots of good british comedy .. most of it just happens not to be on the bbc... Rev is really good for example....

a lot of the good stuff is now being made by sky..... moone boy, stella, alan partridge, hunderby, ect..... so where those would have been on the bbc.. they aren't anymore...

I watched this and didn't laugh once! Seemed like a vanity project for two old queens. Brilliant "straight" actors, dire "comic" actors in my opinion.

Sadly I think the op is right, I can't recall a sitcom over recent years that has made me laugh out loud.

Fools and Horses, Keeping up Appearances, Father Ted, Rising Damp, Fawlty Towers...ah those were the days!

In my opinion yes

Loads of people rave on about that Miranda show but that must be one of the must unfunny, overrated shows in a long time

Fools and horses was very good but it went on too long, they did milk it. Out of recent sitcoms Early Doors, Still Game, Not going out are probably the best.

I don't own a tv so it's been years since I watched this sort of stuff, but going back a while I was a big fan of Teachers and Black Books.... I see things on Facebook and hear people talk about shows like Mrs Brown's Boys and Miranda and just think they don't sound at all funny. But hey maybe it's different to see them..I've heard Miranda Hart (sp?) On the radio and she wasn't remotely funny

I'm a big fan of Miranda -- the performances are fantastic, and it's hugely ditzy.

Wouldn't 'The Thick Of It' count as a sitcom?

Also love 'Not Going Out', as Tim Vine is my comedy here :D
