"Ambition can be both a positive and negative trait, depending on how it's channeled and the values it's aligned with. I try to be aiming for things I like to achive but always within the values of values and ethics I subscribe to and without being burnout, causing offence or harm or put strain on relationships that matter to me. " Yeah, I agree, but I also think a lot of non-ambitious people just automatically assume ambitious people are negative and money oriented and associate ambition with things like materialism, burnout, tramping on others, etc. I often find those people aren’t truly ambitious, they are envious, because they want what they truly don’t deserve or can have, they want it too much. For me, it’s always been about having an impact on the world rather than personal gain, but obviously successful people often gain a lot personally in the process.

"I'm not ambitious at all. If I were, I'd actually have a career and decent money, instead of a series of jobs." Well, I don’t have a job or a career and the moment, but I’m still ambitious. Ambitious on here? Ambitious at the gym ? Ambitious in the kitchen ?

"I'm finding my ambition again. I spent many years allowing my partner to suppress my dreams and ambitions. It's taken me a while to realise that. Even now he is still so controlling and manipulative. I sometimes worry that my drive and ambition are so far hidden these days I might just become a crazy cat lady. I'm not ready to settle for that just yet though. So maybe I am a little ambitious?🤷♀️" And yes I think ambition can be sexy. I admire people who have the drive and ambition to make things happen. I need to be more like that.

I'm not an ambitious person. I stint think ambition in a chosen field of work necessarily makes someone money-fixated or ruthless or unpleasant - ambition is a drive to achieve something. I don't have any. ![]()

" Personally I would not assume anything about other people's lack of ambition as their reasons can vary. As long as they are happy with how they run their lives. I agree though that if your ambition impacts positively on pthers it is a great thing. Some super ambitious people are also great philanthropists but they are far and between.

" Personally I would not assume anything about other people's lack of ambition as their reasons can vary. As long as they are happy with how they run their lives " I also wouldn’t assume highly ambitious people are necessarily any happier. They are the positive and negative stereotypes of each and then everybody else between them. I’ve always been interested in what makes someone ambitious, it’s like an internal compass pointing them, and no one or nothing can knock them off track, and what gives someone drive, which is like the fuel to take them there…

"I would say I have an ambition for comfort. I'll always have worries and stresses but if I can work to live comfortably, I'm all good." I couldn't think how to describe my ambition but you've hit the nail on the head there Joe!

"I was ambitious on starting secondary school. Then at 14 I knew I would work in i.t. which I did. Then recently freelance. I now have a Porsche and currently looking for an Aston Martin." I got into computers at 15, and realised I'd almost certainly work with them. I got an electronic engineering degree, and I've worked as a software engineer ever since. I now have a 10 year old, second hand Vauxhall and currently looking for the money to fix the chronically leaky cooling system. ![]() ![]()

One of the first systems I built was for the education sector in the UK and it’s still used today over 20 years later when I begun I enjoyed the improvements I made to the staff’s life’s, the old system made them do very repetitive tasks and lots of scrolling. There’s a few mentions of it on my LinkedIn. It makes me extremely proud. My ambition was always to make the best system possible for the team and in the process to develop my own team to be outstanding/the best systems team in the world. I never made much money in that role either.

"Do you enjoy achieving your potential? Would others describe you as ambitious ? What’s something you’ve done lately that demonstrates your ambition? Do you think ambition is sexy? No, it’s not a job interview. I’m just nosy. ![]() ![]()
