Yes I have nightmares now & then & some seem so real & vivid, I had 2 scary ones earlier, I don't know how to stop them though but I know certain foods trigger mine like cheese, so avoiding cheese in the evening can help prevent them 👍

I have nightmares regularly, usually about being hounded by something; sometimes a man, sometimes wasps, sometimes big predators. There's a frequent theme of trying to lock a door to safety but the lock keeps failing, and of being on the ground unable to make myself move. The mind is a fascinating thing!

There's nothing you can do about what you dream though, so I just put up with it. Better sleep hygiene could possibly help some folk; things like unwinding without using a screen, making sure your room is warm and comfortable, not going to bed on a full stomach, having a time routine for bedding down, etc. Some bad dreams are inspired by trauma though, and generally need working through in counselling to help stop them.

Which therapies/alternative healing have you tried. My friend has PTSD nightmares from serving and he is better now after many years of trying different things until one particular worked

I get you don't want medication but sometimes we all need a little help until we are in a better place mentally to cope with trauma.

Have you tried (CBT) or (EMDR) therapy are ypu part of support groups?

Medway

I have them, like most, occasionally.

However when I was prescribed statins they became frequent and more horrifying than anything I’d ever experienced.

Literally waking up screaming.

Stoped taking the bloody statins and they stopped again.

There's no cure OP, but there are ways and methods of coping or better put, surviving with these. It's ok to ask for help, but can be hard and with that comes a barrier we all put up that stops us from trying different ways or changes. Sounds like you already have put the barrier up.

For certain conditions medications replace what's low in the body, and I get that medics aren't the answer for everyone

But how do you know unless you try?

Do you have a person. That one person that understands you completely?

Are you saying that the doctors are only advising you to take medication and haven't referred you for anything else?
