just got back from taking the wife to our doctors.

she is complaining of always being tired and keeps falling asleep.

so what has the doctor prescribed for this????

feckin sleeping tablets

zopiclone to be precise

Zopiclone will knock her out big time when i take them i am out if it the following day. Go back to docs.

Seriously OP, no offence but either get a second opinion...bearing in mind symptoms likes that could mean depression...but please do not take medical advice/opinion from a forum..challenge it and good luck to your wife.

Maybe because when see if s slleping at night she is not fully asleep.. Eyes shut but brain still awake.. By using sleeping pills it may allow the brain to shut off at night long enough to recover....

Only a thought mind, as I'm not medically train but sounds logically.

thats just it ... she does sleep when shes supposed to... just that she starts nodding early evening too.... and getting her to get up in the morning at the mo, sheesh

no he has not ... (only looked 15 years old she said lol) apparently, if the tablets dont work, he will refer her to ...wait for it .... Helen, the practice nurse

like one poster said, time for a second opinion (and change of doctor)

This might sound rude but is she overweight at all? Could be sleep apnea which is more prominent in overweight people and causes disrupted sleep so makes the person sleepy in the day as well.

Could also be a symptom of diabetes. Is she drinking/weeing more?

My doctor has prescribed me something to calm me down as I am the same, maybe that's what your wife needs

Daylight tiredness, and falling asleep in the late afternoon, is often a sign of broken sleep and insomnia. And is often treated with Zopiclone.

There is nothing unusual in your wife's GP prescribing this drug, it's very common.

May be that's because the nurses are usually the ones who take blood for testing.

Did you missus not question him as to why he was prescribing sleeping tablets?... or had she nodded off by that point?

makes perfect sense to me .. I also suffer with sleep problems due to a RTA and have to get up numerous times through the night which makes each continuous pattern of sleep 2 hours at max .. I find myself falling asleep through the day time on lots of occasions but would not resort to sleeping tablets as I am opposed to medication unless in extreme circumstances .. I hope your wife finds a solution to this problem as Im sure it will enrich both of your lives

Although I agree with you, there's always the possibility that it isnt. Which is why he should have scheduled further tests to rule out definitively other conditions.

I have M E which us a virus that varies un severity at different times. Some days I could sleep all day n night and still wake up exhausted. Sleeping pills are the last thing someone with M E should be prescribed!

Advice from this thread tho is not a good idea to follow tho - back to doctor and labour the point FIRMLY

We have no idea of what was discussed during the doctors appointment though, the only people that know this are the doctor and the patient....and he will have written that prescription based on that conversation with his patient.

I don't think anyone would take serious note if any medical advice on here. They might use suggestions as research points etc but then go and consult medical professionals. That's what I do anyway.

Either that or Google it and find out I'm dying!!

ok, sorry for not responding sooner to all you lovely forumites... firstly, no not overweight, she is a size 8, also she is already on thyroxin for an overactive thyroid, and she did not question the doc as he did not say what or why he was prescribing zopiclone, was not til i googled what they were that we found out they were sleeping tablets. second opinion is what we need here as it does go a bit deeper with sex drive has gone and vaginal dryness, the sex drive etc seems to have occured since a hysterectomy

had bloods 3 weeks ago, doc said right level of thyroxin
