In no particular order:

Cadiz, Spain - beautiful walled city, with a huge amount of history and amazing architecture

Amsterdam, Netherlands - just beautiful to walk around in the spring or winter, and to just watch the world go by

Venice, Italy - getting lost in Venice is a joy, so much to see!

Monument Valley, USA - natural beauty, huge sweeping vistas, stunning sunsets

Valley of the Kings, Egypt - history? There’s thousands of years packed into a tiny space, all of it beautiful

Glastonbury Tor, UK - worth the hike up the hill to watch the sunrise on a summers morning

Kenai Fjords - glaciers and wildlife

Fernandina - Galapagos. Beautiful volcanic island with amazing wildlife.

Cotopaxi, Equador - stunning park and great volcano *even if the summit is hard work

Namibia Desert - gorgeous red sand dunes.

Bird Island - Seychelles. Beaches & wildlife. Unique ecosystems. The only island that really has the 'awe' factor for me.

Bay of Islands - NZ. Night kayaking with bioluminescence in water is one of my favourite memories. Like a Disney film.

Bagan - Myanmar. A couple of thousand temples from hot air balloon was gorgeous and well worth the early get up.

Jambiani Beach - Zanzibar. Not one of the white sand beaches like other more popular areas. This is wilder and empty.

Mulu Caves- Borneo. Approx 3 million bats leave at sunset in a line. Have never seen anything like that.

That's probably enough 😆

The Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia. They are at about 3500m and the largest salt flats in the world. Very beautiful.

To be fair the whole of Bolivia is just jaw dropping - intensely desolate but incredibly mineral rich. You see bands of different minerals in mountains everywhere. Greens, reds, oranges. Everything.

Dunns river in Jamaica is my absolute fave. 😍

Other than that-I went to some cool places in the Cayman Islands.

Ofc Empire state and the Statue of Liberty in NY.

In Europe - Snowdonia is so stunning. Eiffel Tower and arc de triumph. The royal palace of Madrid. Cologne cathedral. The Neckar River In Heidelberg. And I reckon that might be it. Durdle door was cool.

So so many places of the home-land I could list, so I'm just going to bundle them all together with a one word summary; "Wales" 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🥰

...further afield, I got 'lost' in the Thai jungle of Ngon Nak National Park (Krabi), in the rain, on my own (on a path, I wasn't lost-lost), but it was one of the most soulful life fulfilleing experiences of my life. A boyhood dream realised. Will never forget it.

"Wild Atlantic Way up the West Coast of Ireland from Cork to Donegal "

It’s so stunning … I have ridden my Harley along this route it’s so beautiful … plus when I did it three years ago the weather was perfect … really glorious for two whole weeks !!!

Omg it was stunning ( remember Mike Harding musician comedian he was president of the ramblers association he wrote this was one of the very few places on the planet which is unspoilt )

Havant comes a close second !

Seeing our shadows run for miles across the top of the clouds on Mauna Kea.

Travelling from those busy crossroads in Tokyo to the silent contemplation of a temple in Asakusa.

A sunset at Syndney Harbour.

A quiet corner of Langkawi, Malaysia. Through thick rainforest and onto a white sandy beach with clear waters. Monkeys howling in the trees and eagles circling ahead. No other people in sight.

It was incredible. Just sat there and soaked it all in for a long while.

Then totally opposite - Hiroshima is a beautiful place and it can only really be understood by being there. It’s so serene and calm. It feels like no other place I’ve been on earth.

"For me it has to be the Peak District, love living in the hills surrounded by beautiful scenery on my doorstep."

I understand why you find the beauty of the Peak District.

I lived there for several years.

It truly is stunning and I can fully understand why photographers flock to the Peak District.

Villages with elderly people who have lived their entire life without travelling any further than Bakewell or Buxton.

Close knit communities. (although some outsiders describe the communities as "inbreds")

9 ladies and Arbor Low.

And Shit Holes, erm, I mean Dove Holes.

And the largest quarry in somewhere.

I must now apologise, you have reminded me that the Peak District should have been in my top 20 places.

I really don't know the particulars of why Liverpool might have been taken off the UNESCO list.

However, what I DO know is that to get a listing on UNESCO requires a lot of attention to detail and originality.

From what I understand it lost its status due to the rapid redevelopment happening along the waterfront, including the new Everton stadium. As mentioned above, there is strict criteria for UNESCO. I get it but redevelopment is bound to happen in big cities. I don’t personally see it as a bad thing. It’s good for tourism and income, plus I quite like the contrast of old and new (if done well) 😃

Excellent answer!

As I see it, UNESCO are quite picky and as you say, require a lot of attention to detail and originality.

I personally don't have an issue with this, but perhaps it is why UNESCO status for Harlech (or other Gwynedd castles) Castle is dependant on there being no glass panels or safety railings on the top of the battlements.

I fully understand why a parent with a toddler might not want their toddler to be give free access to the battlements of Harlech Castle.
