The headline on the beeb at the moment is this, experiences of John hunts daughters.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c8d64z4rl5ro

It's very worrying. What can be done to address it and the malign influence of social media?

The wife and 2 of the 3 daughters were killed by one of the daughters ex boyfriends. The surviving sister is saying basically it's social media that caused the ex to do what he did.

I think?

Only read a little bit

There's an interview of him and his serving daughter on BBC 1 now, for those who want to understand what happened.

I think she’s describing more of a feedback loop than a one-way cause. She's saying misogyny is already baked into society, and that environment breeds influencers like Andrew Tate. They reflect it, amplify it, and radicalise some men. Then you get real violence against women. But instead of properly addressing the root of it, society either ignores it or shrugs it off, giving it more space to grow.

Misogyny is 100% an epidemic. Misogynist thought is insidious. Violence against women and girls nerds to be taken seriously.

The Office of National Statistics reports that 1 in 12 women are victims of "reported" violent crime each year but so much also goes unreported the real statistics are likely much higher.

What concerns me is the openly displayed misogyny you see everywhere. H

You will have seen some of the comments made by men on here about women in the public eye that they don't like that go mostly unchallenged

The forums is good at showing the general opinions men have of women which they'd probably not admit to us face to face. From the threads where women wear provocative clothing to the gym for their attention to as you say comments of women in the public eye. It's become so mainstream it's become normal or if you challenge it you're a prude. But your a hypocrite because you show your boobs on here. It's a though we're not supposed to be sexual beings in our own right

Think about the language we use with children, from an early age.

Think about the toys and clothes selected for them.

We still live in a patriarchal society, despite many advances in gender equality.

There was a very poignant social experiment I saw on social media a few weeks ago, Scandinavian, I believe. Girl s and boys paired up together to complete a task. At the end thd boys were 'paid' more than the girls. The children's responses were wholesome.

Mysogyny starts in childhood, with defined gender roles and behavioural expectations.

It's quite old now, but still relevant, on YouTube, search 'Dear Daddy'.

It's powerful.

Horrific especially with the recent syringe attacks in Paris. These misogynists just want women scared into submission.

Well you could read the article. But equally if you don't care that's also ok. As a parent it's concern how respect for others seems to be eroding.

We could learn to see the casualness of it e.g. throw away comments in a forum or conversations down the pub etc and make some effort to understand the reasons why such casual mysoginy exists and why certain biases you hold prevent you from recognising it. ...... it's a start.

BTW...... by you I don't mean you

But they won't.

And what's worse (for me) , is when I ask them about their views on misandry.. and am met with a 'whats that?'

I roll my eyes and carry on with whatever stupid endeavour I'm in at the time.

I'll be dead soon, and none of this bullshit will worry me anymore 🤣 (not a cry for help!)
