Listening to unknown pleasures, the album is nearly 50 years old and I never tire of playing it. RIP Ian Curtis

I never 'got' JD, until I watched Control (film) a couple of years ago.

Then, I 'Got it' .

Bit late to that party....

I haven't read the (biographical) book but Control (2007) is a brilliantly insightful film, sympathetically made, doleful, dark and gives a idea of Curtis' psychological torment, coupled with the lightheartedness and hilarity of Toby Kebbell's performance as Joy Division's irascible and arrogant manager.

How can one not like Joy Division? 🩶

Incredible record (and I choose that term because it really is a snapshot of a very particular time and place).

Some pieces of music are timeless. This will still be played and dissected and talked about the same way we talk about Mozart and Beethoven.

Manchester

Brilliant band, brilliant album. Manchester artists created some incredible music during this era.

There was an art exhibition called "True Faith" a few years ago now in Manchester, it explored the cultural legacy of Joy Division/New Order. It was fantastic and included some notebooks of hand written Joy Division lyrics that belonged to Ian Curtis's widow that she allowed to the shown for the exhibit.

sort of on topic, this is a great interview from '84 where George Michael showed his class even at a young age against the pomp and snobbery of the rest of the speakers (sorry to any Morrisey fans, but he's a condescending fucktard here) while they discussed Curtis and the band(s)

I worked in Macclesfield in the 80’s where Ian Curtis lived. Previously, i attended the Rum Runner club in Birmingham, where their music was regularly played. I still play my 12” Atmosphere disk…what a record

Love Will Tear Us Apart - my favourite all time song. Sadly Ian died before I had an opportunity to see Joy Division live. Shadowplay is another awesome track! Their music still sounds as fresh today as it did back then.
