"to my old mattress. Any recommendations? Obviously I will try it first but like a good quality one that is quite firm overall but comfortable on the top. I remember last time I changed it was a nightmare trying to find something I like. In the end went with one of those with mattress pilow on top. Definately don't like waterbed or pure foam ones. " Have you slept on a waterbed?

"I got a memory foam mattress and it's comfortable but it was expensive. I was thinking of getting a premier inn mattress ( obviously not from the hotel chain ) but those who provide them. I've never had a bad night's sleep in their beds, but I think they are all around £400-£800 depending on size " Some of the good mattresses that are recommended cost way more than that so if is a good one is worth considering. I think it costs £600

"I'd buy the one I have now but they don't make them any more. I've had h-ypnos wool - cashmere, which was supposed to be temp regulating but it was just hot. I've tried Sealy but they have a hard board around them that dig in when you get out. There was Millie Premier 2000 ortho but again a roll up, and a cheaper Millie Gel 1000 but just wasn't sure, both med/firm but comfy. It'd be good to hear what you go for as it's tiring looking around. I'm near basing my decision on this.. https://www.theguardian.com/thefilter/2025/feb/06/best-mattress " Thanks, actually the sealy one is one I like so far as it does not cave in at tbe edges. But is the posturepedic one with the matress pillow on top which whilst it is a firm mattress it also makes it comfortable on top. It is not a cheap mattress though. I Will be cheching out a few more before decission.

"Funnily enough MB my new mattress arrives next week…. Took me ages to decide but now I have one of the hybrid ones coming, medium firm and it was so comfy in the shop I went back twice just to check. Not cheap but hopefully worth every penny " Thanks, sounds like a good one

Different for everyone I suppose

" Invested in a simba matress at the beginning of the year. I can't dsult it for comfort, particularly on the shoulder hip joints. However... I didn't think it through properly. As a heavy person once you embed your body into the memory foam trying to roll over to other side of the bed is like bumping up the curb out if a dip. It's a tad awkward and annoying. I'm talking my husband into changing again. " Have a look at the Resilience 2 mattress from John Ryan. This if from their site "Our Resilience 2 mattress is designed for heavier people that require extra support due to their bodyweight. This bariatric mattress has firm and resilient core topped with softer comfort layers to cushion and support."

"I need a new mattress when I moved here they just got me one to tied me over. I want a good one not sure how much they are but I want a firm non memory mattress one. Im prepared to.pay up to pay £800 if its good and going to last me" I am with you, don't like yhe foam memory ones. Have a look up the thread if anything grabs you. The one I am currently considering costs more so myself hoping could find something cheaper but as good. I was told choosing a matyress is a minefield as lots are same but give them diffrent names just so they can charge more etc

Im prepared to.pay up to pay £800 if its good and going to last me" There is difference in memory foam and foam in general. I'm no expert but memory foam originally came from Tempur, they have changed (not as hot or sinky apparently) with brands copying it. Foam is just that, it comes in different grades for different purposes. Some have latex foam.. which I don't understand.. I've had a foam mattress for a good 9-10yrs, it's been cool, only just started feeling lumpy, the sides haven't given, the top is washable, being honest I am half put off by springs now, but it does mean getting the right foam.

Embarassed at how much I paid last time and that's few years ago ![]() I used to have frequent back pain to an long standing injury point- bought one of the Emma mattresses (about £600 i think) only had a few issues since and those i can trace to over stretching, lifting too much etc which the quack warned me would aggravate my back injury..so my own bloody fault. A great mattress is a great investment! (although not sure i'd quite invest the £3.5k on the posh one i tried at the bed shop ![]()
