I am waiting until they are improved. The loss of value on the re sale forecourt is frightening.

The lack of reliability in the batteries isn't confidence inducing

The lack of miles per charge doesn't make me want to go far in one

The lack of charging facilities other than at service stations is a major inconvenience

The speed at which they are changing and developing means i'd have to keep changing my car more often than i'd want.

They are so quiet too.... I think someone should walk in front of them with a red flag.

My opinion is they haven't solved the range stress and fear of power loss phobias yet to merit getting one when you drive long range.

I also think Musk is a cnt so will never be on board with Tesla

No use to me. I'm too rural with few charging stations around.

And I think all the neighbours would get possed off if I ran an extension lead from my flat across to the parking space I have as I'd have to plant flagpoles with hooks to stop them driving into it and unplugging the car. 🤷‍♂️

Sure, they're a good option for some. But certainly not all.

A hybrid? That's a different kettle of fish.

Lots of different views and all valid points but I thought I’d just take the plunge into the EV life but I must admit when I went and viewed it test drove it I was very surprised to actually how good they are

Given time it'll take to charge the battery if out and about be extra cost for a hotel then there is food and beverages and if it runs out before the next charging point extra cost for a pickup

Unless carrying a spare battery

As they are lithium batteries I think are they safe, yes mobile phones have them and some have exploded, on a rare occasion the PANAM airline used them back in the years and made some changes

Just my opinion, time will tell

If you can charge at home, and the range of the particular model works for your usage… go for it.

If I were buying an electric car today, the VW ID is the one I would be least likely to buy… the are horrifically unreliable, and the software underpinning the car is not fit for purpose. A friend was told this by a VW dealer, and colleagues who have them confirm that they are shit. No of them are getting a second VW ID, and are looking at other manufacturers instead.

I can see the appeal for others, but not for me...

I "need" at least 6 cylinders, a manual gearbox and rear wheel drive.

Cars are my thing though, love driving something lairy that needs a bit of skill and ability to get the best out of.

It's a pass for me... Recently changed and looked at the different versions after a looong time researching, I said no to electric and hybrid and went with diesel.

The depreciation is too steep,and the infrastructure isn't there for them imo.

A previous company went electric, but the landlord said no to a charger. So that made owning an electric car expensive.

Driving them is just like a normal car but quieter, the XC40 was a nice car to drive. Accelerating away from the lights or roundabouts, nothing except a bike or other electric could keep up with you. Having a heavy foit costs you, I lost 2% charge just for a quick blip of the throttle.

Winter driving reduces your mileage, mine went from 320 fuly charged to 260 mile range in the cold. Add into that using air con reduces this further.

I spoke to others who had the same company car, everyone said the samething, you start to drive more conservatively, as you start to plan your charging stops.

Charging away from home is bloody expensive, it ranges from 30p a Kw/h, up 90p a Kw/h. Not to forget you will need to replace the batteries at some point in time, that is extremely expensive.

Apart from that I enjoyed driving an electric car.

I don't think we have the public transport infrastructure

As a result, we don't have the mindset

We are too reliant on cars

For example, I will be travelling to Milton Keynes this weekend

2h55 each way in the car - maybe £40-£50 of fuel return total

On the train, £120 each return (there's 3 of us) and a journey time of 5h20 minutes

An electric car wouldn't do the journey there and back on one charge

A standard car would make it there and back without refuelling

Why do people get so worried about the climate?

They burn fossil fuels to produce electricity and then you plug in to charge. What's the difference?

It's like saying I want to swim but don't want to get wet.

It's nonsense.
