Bizarrely it was done by my dentist (at his home not the surgery) and he was learning the techniques to use on nervous patients n asked if he could 'put me under '

No it didn't freak me out - I was more impressed how he had got the information out of me - whether it was a mental process or whether I spoke when under. I still don't know how he did it

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I tried hypnosis twenty years ago and it didn't work with me. I am willing to try it therapeutically again as I may be more open to it now.

I am a trained hypnotherapist. Being hypnotised feels different for everybody. The best way to describe is you feel very relaxed.

You naturally go into hypnosis all the time. Examples are

You are watching the TV and somebody asks you if you want a cup of tea. You do not hear them until the 3rd or 4th time of asking. You were in hypnosis. You were concentrating on the TV and lost focus of other things.

You are reading a book and somebody asks you if you want a cup of tea. You do not hear them until the 3rd or 4th time of asking. You were in hypnosis. You were concentrating on the book and lost focus of other things.

You are driving and suddenly think I don't remember that last 10 minutes of my driving.

In your normal state you are aware of lots of things at once such as the feel of the chair you are sitting on, the noise of the TV, the noises outside etc. Basically in hypnosis you concentrate on one thing (the hypnotherapists voice) and lose focus of everything else. So in the driving example you concentrate on your driving and lose focus on everything else like noises.

If it didn't work the hypnotherapist was crap. Also he or she did not test they had guided you into hypnosis.

Actually, I think your explanation above is the answer: it is rare for me to be able to switch my brain off and/or concentrate on one thing. I'm hyper aware and often do more than one thing at once. Watching television and reading at the same time is not uncommon.

I tend to think my mind would resist delivering control like that, but doubtless I'm wrong.

I have had a regression done, I have what was said on tape and a manuscript writern as well.

I actually went to see if i could pull the wall over their eyes make them look stupid.

But unbelievably it was very real, what you saw, what you could smell, people talking to you.

And for those that are now wondering, i was taken back to Medieval times and at the age of 12 i saw my own death.

Only to come back again in early Victorian times as a child called Clarabelle PMSL !!

Here i am again for the third time.

I would recommend it if you are ever given the chance, it's quite freaky but when you go over what you have said i lot of it may have a bearing on what is going on in your life now !!

Saves me creating a new thread! I wonder how old this one is, don’t recognise anyone.

Anyway, my point. I have an annoying and unhealthy habit which I don’t like (and don’t wish to reveal) and have been thinking about trying hypn0sis.

Has anyone ever been hypn0tised? What was it for (if you’re prepared to say)? Did it work? I’d be interested whether it was for therapy or to deal with a habit, like for example smoking etc.

I had it as part of cognitive therapy at university (yes that long ago). It’s not fool proof - it’ll depend on what the triggers are, and it took 3 sessions to get it to be effective. But it helped enormously at the time.

Thanks Glow. If I do it I won’t expect magic results immediately, or even at all!

An interesting philosophical point! Although from what I read I believe hypn0tists record all sessions. I assume to mitigate against these kinds of claims and any other accusations of wrongdoing.

Many, many times and I really value it. It's a a wonderful sense of deep relaxation - which can't be a bad thing!! - and you remain in control. One experience that's possible is to enter a dream state and to dream. Obviously, having someone who knows what they are doing is the ideal. Once you have experience of it, you can much more easily conjure up the state, whenever you want to.

Yes twice and on stage, all I wanted to do was follow his voice and do everything he told me to do. Once I woke up I felt like I'd slept for about 8 hours.

I suppose it helped. I had a week or so before a big change of environment so it gave a good start, I only fell back years later one NY party

All the normal stuff they make you do yeah. On one i was sent back to sit down, and every time he mentioned a trigger word, I had to jump up on the table and heckle him, all the drinks went everywhere 😂

Ooh good question OP, never have myself but equally curious to what it’s like. I don’t know if it true or not but I’ve heard it doesn’t work on everyone so just as curious to know if it would even work if I ever tried it. x

It really has been! If someone wants to be in trance, they can be - it's a natural state of mind and the therapist is your skilled guide, who can help to lead you, for you to get what you want from it. I've probably had it close to a thousand times.

I’ve had counselling before and was very sceptical at the start, because I thought I’d just see her techniques coming and my analytical brain would prevent me getting anything from it. I allowed myself to be counselled and it definitely helped.

As I would want to be hypn0tised I think I would allow myself to be. I will look into this as I’m now seriously considering it. If I start talking (more than usual) shit on here when someone says minge, you’ll know they’ve messed with me.
