I have recently inherited a Victorian terrace house which I absolutely love. It does need some restoration, thankfully all cosmetic, but I am so excited about starting this project.

Do you prefer old houses or a new build. Both have advantages, an old house usually has big spacious rooms which are full of character but usually there are maintenance costs involved. Whilst new builds look modern and fresh and don't usually have additional maintenance costs involved.

What do you prefer?

Mines a pretty newish build but i do love my mums house hers is a big victorian terrace and has so much character and space.

I will buy myself something with a bit of character when my finances allow

Old every time, far more character. My biggest nightmare would be living on a housing estate where all the houses where identical to each other. Mine was built in 1904

I love old houses and done up 8 so far .. some so old I had to close the roads and wall may come down . Was 17c , lol so I had to have listed people in , tell me what I could or could not do , lol

The garden is a bit of an issue tho, it being a terrace then the gardens are all close together so not offering a lot of privacy, and there's no parking. You tend to find newer ones are much better for those aspects

Love big old Victorian houses much more stable foundations and walls; also love them with leaded windows or bay windows. Also love things like chaises longues it was just such a fantastic decadent era. Would love the life of Dorian Gray but without the whole demon thing. mmmm decadence and hedonism on a perfect balance.

Congratulations

I was brought up in a huge 5 bedroomed Victorian end terrace and I absolutely loved it. My dad restored so many original features. Oh I do miss it

but I bet the house make up for lack of space out side ... not into new houses ... but some flat pack ones I may have a go at on the broads . xx

Old every time for me

My flat is a terrace conversion and the rooms are massive compared to friends who live in new build apartments

And it feels like home cos it creeks and moans , bit like myself these days

It has all been plastered inside so that's ok. The outside did have some kind of cladding on which has been removed but the bricks need restoring back to their original red brick. That's my first job and there's a brick wall outside that needs rendering.

Georgian is my fav

I like the room sizes of Edwardian

I would sorely love to build my own house. A Huff house would be amazing.

Our house is 110 years old double fronted and 3 stories high. Most of the windows and all of the doors are original. It can be hard work and costs a small fortune to keep warm but we love it. xxx

well I have never been good at nothing apart from seeing old houses that need to live again .. I never see them how thay are its how thay could be , lol I got some on the Norfolk coat john said I was mad , lol I show him , lol I just think I am putting life back into them .

Jay just buys houses to rent out, he just has them renovated for student let's. He doesn't buy anymore now though just keeps the ones he's got, there all either 4 or 5 bedroomed villa terraces

I like old houses simply because they tend to be bigger and have more garden. I have my workshop at the end of the garden and 84 trees. Wouldn't get that on a new build estate! But would like one day to build my own new house. Full of quirky space and set in the middle of a plot of land

Prefer an old house with character and I miss the big bay window from the flat I used to live in, nothing better than sitting in the window watching the world go by

I grow up in old fashioned house, Victorian mainly..loved them!

I moved into 10 years a modern new build and I got to choose all of the inside and lay out, I loved it!

Now live in somewhere in between but still I love a house to have character but also believe you can have that in any house, it is what you make of it.

we've got a 200 year old stone and cob cottage. We've had it 18yrs now and don't see us living anywhere else now. Very low ceilings downstairs and I have to duck my head to get in my front door. I've got a few scars from the times I forgot to duck though
