Loads of people are a bit like this.

Ive had messages off couples and when gone to reply have been blocked...and that's before the first reply odd really.

Maybe there was something they missed in your profile that put them of ? Just a suggestion or perhaps one part of the couple decided no ? could be any number of reasons.

Move on , dont dwell on it plenty more fabsters to meet lol
