The Yamoto wasn't sunk until 1945, when it was attacked by American forces as they attempted to break the US fleet bombarding Okinowa.

All four Japanese carriers were sunk during the battle of Midway

Problem is there are a stack of movies based around the Pearl Harbor attack & the Battle of Midway.

On Midway I rate the 1976 version over the modern one. The fact it integrated footage from the battle, the incredible cast and the fact that people who were actually there make a big difference. Plus I like Woody Harleson but he's no Henry Fonda.

The Pearl Harbor with Affleck is meh. If you want a historical Epic about the events then probably Tora Tora Tora.

If you want a romance set around the events then From Here to Eternity is a classic.
