When I split from my husband, I made a list of things that I wanted to do as part of working out who I am again. They are being ticked off slowly but surely but there is one that I keep coming back to and that is to learn to play the piano. I’m not wanting to be a concert pianist, but just be able to play a few tunes. However, the flaw in this idea is access to a piano 🎹

So, how do get access to one, I don’t have the space for a proper piano at home nor do I want the expense of buying one but is there a keyboard that would be suitable for a beginner but not too expensive, in case I try and give it up really quickly. Any suggestions?

And is it better to get lessons or are there online tutorials that are self paced that you can recommend?

I am a piano teacher. I can give you plenty of advice but I'd rather not type everything. Would you like connect directly?

This is not a come-on.

Id go for lessons first that way u will see if you like it want to carry on or ditch it then at least you haven't wasted money on a piano

Harpenden

Get a second hand Keyboard it will be cheap as chips, well cheaper than a new one and buy some books from A mazon

Get letter keys so you lable them or like me just trial and error. Listen to the notes I found this easier than I thought it would.

Just have a tinker as my dear ol nan used to say.

Enjoy the piano it can be beautful to play and ease those stresses away.

Christ I'm a poet! But you know what I mean . Good luck and enjoy xx

I know the notes and can read music which helps. I also got up to grade 6 on the clarinet before I stopped playing.

I used to play a bit when we had a piano at home as a child but no formal lessons, just tinkering. I've always been in awe of those that can play more than just twinkle twinkle or the start of chopsticks!

Take a look at the video in our gallery. I think you'll approve. It needs an update though.
