Who here would turn vegetarian if the had to hunt or slaughter in order to eat meat?

Somewhere in Hampshire

I used to help my grandad kill the chickens in his coop on Sundays so my nana had the meat for Sunday roast. So I think I'd be fine with the killing part. It would be the catching part for me now with dodgy eyesight!

Used to go rabbit hunting with my Dad and then helped skin them and make the stew. I think I'd be fine

"Who here would turn vegetarian if the had to hunt or slaughter in order to eat meat?"

I grew up in Eastern Europe and we had to grow and kill our own food during communism. For us it was a part of life. We survived the winter by eating meat and potatoes as you didn't have all the food available all year round. I witnessed a horse being killed by a bolt gun. I still remember the fear in the beast's eyes.

I rarely eat meat these days.I do believe if people had to kill a pig by smashing the skull with a sledge hammer they would possibly not enjoy their bacon sarnies as much...

Shot quite a few wild boar, never stoved a pigs head in with a hammer though

Likewise, I've shot a warthog. Not sure about hunting by other means though :/

Despite my dad and brothers keeping rabbits, chickens and later goats and Sunday dinner hanging in the pantry every Saturday night I would probably be vegetarian. I'd keep chickens for eggs

I've been in a hunting party before... they used almost every part of the animal, not just the meat... I could easily justify my meal

No chance! I eat steak at least 4 times a week and grew up in Africa where I’ve done my fair share of hunting in the past. If I could eat eland every night I would but absolutely not ever turning vegetarian!

I wouldn't have a problem with hunting down the dinner. If I'm driving and I see a dead pheasant at the side of the road, I stop and see how badly mutilated it is, and if it's reasonable okay, it goes in the boot, taken home, hung for three to five days, then plucked, and in the freezer till I'm ready to cook it.

I’m going to rephrase the question to add to the debate.

Who here would hunt and kill their own meat rather than go hungry? Growing veggies takes a bit of time!

I keep chickens, which means sometimes having to humanely dispatch one. I’ll manage.

I've done it. Ate a raw slice of wood pigeon with garlic salt lol.

Don't like fishing unless it's to eat. Any hunting unless it's to eat. Otherwise it's nothing to do with you, leave them be.

If I had to stalk and shoot something with a bow and arrow or gun I'd starve.

I could easily live without meat if I had the correct supplements.

I can't ever bring myself to kill a fly, let alone an animal. I very seldom eat meat these days as vegetables are tastier and cheaper.

I don’t know if I could I’m ower soft in that way my dad tried to get me into hunting when I was young and had me try and shoot a wood pigeon with an air rifle I tried and it flew off and my dad told me it had clipped its wing trying to make me feel better and it had the opposite effect the guilt was too much I had to tell my dad I don’t ever want to kill anything after that I’m sure he was disappointed but never let on
