Certainly not. I'm a direct male descendant of a Norman invader. Oddly enough, one of the reasons why the Angle-Saxons lost was because they chased the Normans who pretended to run away and the English in World War 2 made the same mistake of running after Germans who led them into traps.

Make sure you send the Petition to Oslo - the Normans were descendents of Norse chancers who had invaded and settled in Northern Frankia.

Ironically they had turned their attentions to Frankia because the English had figured out how to defeat the Danes and Norse invaders and had turned Viking raids into suicide missions!

It was not meant to be a coherant lesson on British modern history, more a lighthearted banter on the back of some teasing about the Scots , all taken in a lighthearted way. I am more than aware of how India was colonised by the empire and fought over by various European nations, the east India trading company etc etc. It so happens I have a masters in history and know quite a bit about this subject. The point was that WE as an empire exploited other countries by some form of conquest. Happy now ? Can we get back to lighthearted now ?

That's a very old study, the Swanscombe chalk pit dig in Kent blew that old chestnut out of the water a few years ago.

It is true that the Romans reintroduced the Spanish rabbit back into Britain when they invaded, but proof of earlier wild rabbits have been found over the last few years.

Quite true. The domestic rabbit is a descendant of the wild European rabbit. Rabbits were believed to have been introduced to Britain by the Romans, however, who kept them in fenced off warrens and harvested their meat and fur.

Rabbits....

Nah....rabbits were on the British mainland for hundreds of thousands of years before the Romans invaded

Rabbits were not even recorded as existing in this country until the 12th century."

The Boxgrove and Swanscombe Archaeological digs in 2005 and 2007, unearthed several rabbit tooth which date back to Neolithic times, which blew the previous beliefs about rabbits in Britain out of the water.

They did however die out long before the Romans brought them in as a penned and farmed animal from Spain.

So i'm not ENTIRELY wrong then?

Anyway, the rabbits I have seen didn't have teeth. But hey did have batteries though.

Normans were not French people strictly speaking. Normans were descended from the Norse men ( The Vikings )

Just to be annoying, Viking is a verb not a noun - the Svear, the Norse and the Danes all went 'Viking' but it was the Dane who settled in the English Kingdoms.

Strangely enough, during the research into 'Face of Britain' (Dr Robin McKie) it was discovered that it is effectively impossible to differentiate between Danish and Anglo Saxon genes - we are close cousins it seems.
