Got a snowman sitting on my front garden that I built on New Year's Day. It hasn't melted a single bit, it's been that cold up here.

More snow forecast

http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/warnings.asp

A very cold week lies ahead for all of Britain and Ireland as a cold north/north-easterly airstream covers the country. Pressure will remain high to the northwest for much of the week, whilst low pressure over Scandinavia will slip further south and west as we go through the week.

A band of sleet and snow will move southwards across Scotland on Monday evening, before moving into northern England and Ireland overnight, reaching parts of Wales and the Midlands by Tuesday morning. Some accumulations of snow are expected, especially across higher ground. Rain may fall in western areas, leading to icy conditions.

Snow showers will follow into northern areas, especially around windward coasts, and these will give further accumulations.

Further snow is expected across central and southern areas of England on Tuesday and Wednesday, with further snow showers following in from the north. Almost anywhere could see a covering of snow, with snow depths building up across northern and eastern parts in particular.

Our biggest concern at the moment is across central and southern areas of England for Tuesday evening, when it looks like some very heavy snow will develop, bringing some significant falls of between 10 and 20cm, and perhaps even more to some areas. This will cause widespread disruption to travel networks.

Give the unemployed a shovel - that will help both keep them warm, and help the old folks, all at the same time

Well we got snowed in on the 19th Dec and remained that way until the 31st when we escaped for a few hours.

New years day we got loads more snow that we finally managed to escape from on the 4th Jan.

Woke up this morning and we are snowed in again and presently have 18" of snow and its still snowing hard.

3 days escape since the 19th Dec no wonder we have cabin fever here.

Maybe its our own fault as we do live on the edge of the pennines but it is beautiful here.

Steve
