Tesco VAR scanning system

Some people saying they won't use Tesco again because the store has started using a new security system on its self scanning area.

All it does is prompt them that they have forgotten to scan a item. Why would you be against it unless you intend not to pay for items..?

Also, if an item is level with the edge of the collection area with 2 other items in front of it... is it scanned or not?

I try not to use the self scan unless I’ve only got a couple of items.

It takes away jobs from local people and the pay/tax they would contribute for local services, sports clubs, kids music lessons etc.

A machine doesn’t contribute anything to society, just increases profits to the company.

Just playing devils advocate here, but more profit for the company means more corporation tax.

They will be trialing driverless taxis soon and if successful could be rolled out. That’s a potential loss of 381,000 jobs across the country.

How long before buses and coaches follow?

A few minutes, i think that if time is money to that extent perhaps a life review is on the cards.

Most of someone’s income will get recirculated, much of it locally. Whereas corporation tax is significantly less. Often the increased profits will go to investors off shore, which does nothing for the local economy.

I think the way things are heading is a good argument to start thinking seriously about Universal Basic Income (UBI).

We should have all been using local businesses, such as smaller shops that employ more staff and you get staff service, rather than these leaches who expect customers to do staff jobs. And then they won't give them staff discounts!

I have a friend who has not paid for a birthday card since self-checkouts became a thing.

If supermarkets were really worried about shoplifting they'd employ more staff. I think they've just done a sum:

Saw a video of it the other week and I see why, especially when I see how heavy handed some security are.

At my most frequented Tesco they don’t even allow you to scan a bag, and instead manually bring them over and scan them for you.

Dividends are paid out after corporation tax has been deducted. How high a dividend a company chooses to pay has zero impact on corporation tax. Same as where the shareholders live

There’s many people in this country that own shares in overseas companies, why is the reverse not reasonable?
