Mine was a Danish nursery rhyme...which was about a little mouse..

I loved one called 'Little Sir Echo' (although I thought it was little Sirecco at the time)

My mum used to teach us lovely little songs like this (and the gilly gilly ossenfeffer one) and I taught my kids - who are now teaching THEIR kids.

I love that kind of continuity - those songs and rhymes are like little heirlooms

down in the meadow, there's a teeny weenie pool, lives a mommy fishy and a baby fishy too. Swim says the mommy fishy, swim if you can, and they swam and they swam all over the damm. boom boom di dattum wottom, choo.

you are my sunshine is one that will go through our children and our childrens children.

My nan used to sing it to us all and then to her great grand children as well. It was played at her funeral and everyone sang along.

My dad used to sing us one called "little red caboose" and we used to always get excited when there was a railway crossing we had to stop at, waiting to see if the train had a little red caboose. My dad passed away from cancer a few months before my twins were born and unfortunately because of his illness ( and our lack of funds) the last time he saw my son was when he went over to Canada when he was 3 months old...but I have a short video clip from our last night there,of my dad bouncing C on his knees singing "Little Red Caboose " to him...priceless

5 little speckled frogs Sat on a speckled log

eating the most delicious grub yum yum

One jumped into the pool where it was nice and cool and then there were 4 green speckled frogs.......

One of my faves that my Scottish Gran used to sing was 3 craws - I loved the way it ended

Three Craws, Sat upon a wa' (x3) Three Craws sat upon a wa' on a cold and frosty mornin. The First Craw, Couldnae flee at aw' (x3) The First Craw couldnae flee at aw' on a cold and frosty mornin. The Second Craw, Was greetin for his maw (x3) The Second Craw was greetin for his maw on? a cold and frosty mornin. The Third Craw, Fell and broke his jaw (x3) The Third Craw fell and broke his jaw on a cold and frosty mornin. The Fourth Craw wisnae there at a'

And Windmill in old Amsterdam (I saw a mouse) was another great one

"There was an old lady who swallowed a fly". I spent ages learning all the verses and still remember them now.

My dad had a silly little phrase that made me chuckle:

Silence in court, the judge is dead!

Somebody farted and blowed off his 'ead!!!

He's a bit strange my dad, lol.
