Arsenal fan here. The game itself was truly teams 16th and 17th, absolutely woeful. The only silver lining I can perhaps get from this is sureeeeely, the powers at be and board look at that and back Arteta beyond comprehension. If he doesn't deliver ONE trophy, if he's adequately backed, then I will not have much to say other that he wasn't meant to be

It (Europa) was a big trophy when United won it, when Arsenal tried to win it and when Chelsea won it (all in the last 10 years). It has always been a big trophy and it always will be. The quality in it and the reward for winning it mean that.

As for the FA cup, it is still a big domestic trophy. That’s why it’s what you need in order to win the treble.

Ask Wigan or Portsmouth fans if they would swap their FA cup trophies for treading water in the Premier League with almost no hope of ever being competitive

Or the money the premier league gives the clubs over championship sides or the sides you can watch which are a supposed higher quality in the premier league

Personally I’d rather premier league survival which mostly indicates club survival unlike Portsmouth who went through an awful time of ownership and lack of money than a FA Cup

or take Palace who just won it, the first trophy in their history and will play in Europe next season. Seems like a big trophy to them. The entirety of Newcastle celebrated the league cup. Imagine the FA cup. These are big trophies.

Yes, it’s been a shit season for Spurs, it’s been awful to watch. A dire team playing awful football. Did we deserve the trophy? Probably not but I loved the win and as a lifelong spurs fan I celebrated and will continue to celebrate this much needed success.

People can talk about how bad we’ve been, whether we deserved it or how awful the final was. It doesn’t matter, we won, name on the trophy. Job done

I think you'll find it's the same across generations, 'top rated' players have limited touches that are only highlighted when they do something most players don't.

I grew up supporting Chelsea. I don’t support them anymore but had lots of good times at the bridge (and awful ones) including ‘Battle of the bridge’ against spurs. But have to say, seeing spurs win a trophy, as much as I hate them, has been so funny because rival fans are having an absolute meltdown.

Personally I think Ange should leave. Better on his own accord tbh. But finishing a place above the relegation zone is seriously seriously dire. The team isn’t good enough to compete in the UCL under Ange, they didn’t challenge for anything domestically and they have shipped goals and points to some of the league’s worst this season. Go out on a high. The project hasn’t been great.

One thing that's almost certain is Ange isn't leaving of his own accord. If he does, he waves goodbye to about £10m for breaking the contract early.

In all honesty he probably should have been sacked months ago, but it's difficult for Levy to do it now.

I think they'll do Ange like Man Utd did with Ten Hag, where they give him enough rope to hang himself and then make the change.

Clubs do that. RDM did the same at Chelsea after the UCL win. Tuchel also didn’t last long, the new owners wanted him gone.

Agree they should’ve sacked Ange months ago but after the Jose situation before the league cup final, no chance he makes that mistake twice. Though I do think any top coach that takes the spurs job wins the Europa given the standard of teams they faced. Hard to sack him now but even harder for Levy to get away with not spending properly like he usually gets away with.

I agree to an extent. I think top clubs that spurs have been amongst, the ‘top 6’🤢, would’ve taken a top 4 finish over finishing 17th regardless of the trophy. I think certainly Chelsea, Liverpool, United, City would have taken a better league position but perhaps the fact they’ve won European trophies recently is a factor? Arsenal for example haven’t and they’re the only other of that group that I reckon would be ok with a 17th and Europa finish.

"I know I'm an old git, but no teams today deserve to win an egg cup, never mind a big trophy, they're all totally boring with no real talent. Players now seems to be more interested in posing or doing a wee dance, rather than playing the ball.

You could get a job on the talkSPORT morning show when Alan Brazil retires 🦖

watch any game, and count the number of times a top rated player actually touches the ball, you'll find it's not much.

I think you'll find it's the same across generations, 'top rated' players have limited touches that are only highlighted when they do something most players don't.

guess you mean the likes of Dennis law,George Best, Jimmy johnston."

Absolutely I mean their ilk. Have you watched full matches they've played in and counted how many touches they had? They never played on one man teams.

"If I was a Spurs fan and someone told me you'll win the Europa league, but you'll finish 16/17th in the league, I'd have snapped your hands off. a sad reflection of the ambitions of that club. BUT, I agree with you.

It’s also hard to measure the development and sustainability of your project and success if you finish 17th in the league but win a trophy if you’re a ‘top’ side. The worry immediately becomes, if we don’t invest and improve significantly, very quickly, then we’re actually taking a step backwards rather than forward.

"Arsenal fan here.. as much as I feel sick to the pits of my stomach seeing that lot lift a trophy, begrudgingly I have to rate Ange for this.

The guy said “I always win things in my second season” then proceeded to just do that. Spoke with his chest out and backed his chat.

As for United, they can get in the bin. Disgraceful by them for allowing this to happen.

Arteta, next season YOU MUST! 🫵🏾

Next season next season

Sack him today!"

Netflix FC 🤣🤣🤣

Let’s be real, that’s not going to happen now is it? He signed a bumper contract extension last year. £12m a year you know! Giving him one more season. If we’re here where we are now this time next year, then a certain someone’s P45 should be incoming

I love Evra so much.

I hear you. I just worry Arsenal will miss their window to win. City will certainly invest again. Liverpool are strengthening. Things are only going to get harder for Arsenal. Players won’t hang around forever.

Have this same fear too, been here before in the past. It’s why we need a big summer transfer window. Strengthen where needed, Quality squad depth and hit the ground running. No more excuses now.

Watching them 2 teams their league position dont lie the game was what I expected from 2 poor teams the goal summed it up scrappy and neither had much idea or class.

I think this is the only argument I'll accept for league position being better than a trophy and it's a club's bread and butter, but probably more applies to the bigger clubs where they're expected to progress to the point their in a position to win the league.

As a lifelong united fan we can't complain over pathetic things like that free kick or dominating the last 10 mins.

United are LOOSERS who don't deserve their fanbase.

True champions can rise up and win after a bad game.

United's owners caused the mess it's not the manager or shit players fault. We are lucky to have them.

Like I said united are LOOSERS...I am a winner... I don't fail at what I do and nobody would give me sympathy or clap for me if I failed.

That's why I go watch Rochdale or go out with the wife. I can accept Rochdale being losers because they only cost £20 and you get to go on a more fun pub crawl/food/convenience....Rochdale appreciate their fans but united is like an only fans girl and the fans are like simps.

I watch united on TV but I'm happy to use them like they use fans to fund a new stadium after asset stripping the old one.

100%. I think the trouble is, winning the champions league is significantly more difficult than Europa or the league or fa cup so it becomes unlikely you’ll win that one, especially without significant investment. Then it becomes about securing the qualification for it again, only a top 5 finish can secure that. So how far away from the top 5 are you next season? What will it take for you to get there in one season? And that’s the difference I think between where a club like Aston Villa or Newcastle are currently at and after where your Arsenals, Citys and Liverpools are at. They’re expecting to play UCL football every year, not just European football. And the league position it’s important to that. Winning the Europa league is great but I think they’re more interested in showing progress towards a league title and a UCL title. And the Europa league does, unfortunately, mean less to you when you’ve already won the UCL. For example, Liverpool and city likely won’t care who wins the Europa because it’s not a competition the believe they should be competing in. And that’s why I think it is about context. A top side, as spurs have been branded (top 6 side) is not satisfied with 17th and a trophy compared to say… Palace or West Ham.

"Yes, it’s been a shit season for Spurs, it’s been awful to watch.

Job done "

This 💯

The records will show that Spurs won and that’s it.

I’m a Liverpool fan and people are saying it’s been the worst Premiership and we’ve been awful, blah blah blah.

Our name is on the trophy and we are 12 points clear from 2nd place - it’s not our fault teams haven’t stepped up to challenge 🤷🏻‍♂️

Well done all the teams who have won cups this year 🎉🥳

Terrible game and two terrible sides but congrats to Spurs. I don’t think this helps either side as they are miles off competing with the best sides in England, let alone the best sides in Europe.

Interesting to see what both sides do in terms of incomings and their managerial situation but i doubt there’s a queue of players rushing to join either unless the money is insane

Congratulations to Ange he won a trophy every second season. No one thinks about the effects being in European competitions will have next season on the smaller teams like Palace, Brighton, Brentford, Fulham etc .., although fantastic if they do get into Europe but their previously excellent work to get there could seriously harm their league status next season.
