Yes it affects me.

I get upset but I try to look at it through the lense of them being insecure about their own inadequacy and it makes more sense that way.

Their opinions and influence do matter to an extent even when they are wrong and malicious. They can prevent you from getting where you want to be.

In a job interview, yes.

I don't usually behave in a way that would make random strangers think bad of me but people will always form opinions of you based on their own experiences and prejudices. I don't have any control over that so I'm not too concerned.

One of the things I always enjoyed was honest reverse appraisals at work. Saw as a development opportunities and imporyant also to team cohesion

To an extent yes i do. When I go out I'd rather people think oh she looks nice, rather than quick hide your kids this one looks like she'll eat them for breakfast. But voiced opinions from people that don't know me mean nothing, unless they have a valid point. I guess it's very circumstantial. If you're doing something that causes someone to have an opinion of you at work or in your social circle then yes of course. What goes around comes around.
