After booking a room with travel lodge (other well known brands are available) I arrived to be informed had I been half an hour later my room would have been let to someone else as they work on a first come first serve policy. Be warned you fellow swingers.

I thought that if you book a room its yours. You have to pay a deposit to reserve it

I wouldn't be too pleased if I booked a room to find they'd let someone else have it.

So did I but travel lodge work on a 1first come first served policy which I didnt know until I arrived even though room was paid for

Travel lodge are notorious for overbooking. Their cheapest room bookings are non-refundable so they assume a percentage of bookings won't be honoured. To be honest they must have the margins pretty accurate as I've never heard of people being turned away.
