I don’t pay the licence fee with living overseas so the BBC is free; go figure, anyways I digress!

BBC have conducted an in depth investigation of UK police using the Nordic model for sex workers, decriminalisation for the women involved and education / ant-social behaviour orders for men.

Paying for sex and offering sexual services for money is legal, whereas sex outdoors / public places, as well as keeping a brothel, are considered anti-social as well as illegal.

I wonder if such methods will ultimately be government policy nationally and what the implications will be for swingers given many of us enjoy outdoor fun, exhibitionism and clubs of different persuasions

Are you saying public sex should be legal? I'm not sure I'm getting your point.

I do have a few issues with some of the laws. Two working girls can't live together and watch each others backs because multiple under one roof counts as a brothel for example. Some of the current UK rules and laws serve to make it more difficult for the workers to keep themselves safe.

There's a little to learn from it - it should be legalised.

But it's a terrible model, as it's ignorant of human psychology and needs. We should be doing everything we can to improve the health and safety of all involved in both sides of the commercial engagement.

Persistent anti social behaviours comes with up to 5 years and unlimited fine. I'm not sure it would make much difference whether it was directly criminal or not in itself.

I do think public sex outside of designated spaces should remain criminal rather than just antisocial though 💜

I hope that this model is never imposed across all the UK. It's unhealthy and makes life for the professionals more precarious and potentially results in people getting evicted or thrown out of countries.

It's lala land thinking to assume it'll stop the trade or give more protection to workers

As far as I am aware, this is the law for n the UK already. I thought the principal of the Nordic model was to say it's legal to sell sex but illegal to pay for it, which is insane in my opinion and something I would be against importing here.

They already tried this experiment in Leeds. I, unfortunately, lived not too far from the red light district at the time.

It didn’t work. All it led to was even more street prostitution than there was before. Guys driving up and down in cars all day propositioning any woman who happened to be on the street. Girls on their way to school were being harassed. A car even pulled up to me and asked if I was “working”, and this was mid day on a Sunday! Also a sex worker was murdered. Many were victims of crime by men who came because they knew it was now “legal” to pick them up off the street. So criminals with bad intentions would look less suspicious. Businesses in the area were littered with condoms, needles, underwear, tissues, people shagging all over. The whole idea is stupid.

Needless to say they ended that experiment and started clamping down again.

Keep the laws as they are.

Public play is illegal for real reasons... Such as children seeing or people just not wanting to see. Plus you have the very real danger to women when you could have men legally sexually harassing women by stroking it in public in their presence. You also have the issue of women doing the same with men

It's got many negative consequences and is, sadly, still a hangover from the thoughts that sex is bad. It's got too much that works against the interests of women.

Northern Ireland is the part of the UK that criminalised the purchasing of sex. It will be a bad day, if the Nordic model expanded in the UK.
