I’m actually 50 percent with you, if anyone says they have good banter or boast how good they are (I actually know someone who does that) i roll my eyes. It’s not the best trait in the world, there’s much better things to be good at.

But, I do spot people I can have a laugh with, a bit of back and forth is good.

Yes exactly as has been said - small talk is boring. Banter shows personality and that's a very attractive quality. Banter is fun and cheeky. Small talk is like pulling teeth until you can escape.

If someone asks me how I am then I will tell them, if they just meant it as stroke economy pleasantness, they usually don't do it again - and at best we exchange smiles.

How are you? isn't banter or a superficial question to me. I think it's an act of respect and consideration to see how someone is, before wading into what I'm interested in.

Feminism is a fairly interesting topic, I'd be more interested in discussing Chiara Bottici's work which draws a parallel between AnarchAfeminism and contemporary Intersectionality/Kyriarchical analysis. If it's going to be one of those when it suits gender essentialism vacillations where someone is showing me memes of JK Rowling smoking a cigar. And my function is to validate that they are right - then I'll probably get a bit bored.

And that's really what it's about for me: how we converse, the openness, desire to understand, playfulness. Deep or trivial topics. I'll cut all the crap and get right down to fundamental beliefs and values. I want to know what makes someone tick and I am looking for the same.

Felt experience is important too, otherwise it all just gets kept in our headspace.

This is a difficult one. Sometimes you need a filler sentence because you're often sending a cold message with no idea how the person will respond.

I try to assume the people (due to being on here) can accept a bit naughty or more forward. Therefore I try include a few funny questions or thought provoking statements.

Until I know the person's vibe it can be difficult.

I think you are confusing small talk with Banter. Small talk is throw away comments or questions. Example: how are you? What lovely weather we are having today. Or you alright?. They are conversation starters but no one generally cares for the answers.

Banter is a jokey light hearted conservation with some wit and maybe poking fun at someone very gently. It's shows you are sharp witted, charismatic and that you have a personality. Or in other words it shows you are a fun person to be with.
