What does the wedding ring mean to you?

Jump to newest

By *hagTonight OP   Man

From the land of haribos.

It can mean many things for everyone. I am not married, but for me it is the symbol of eternal love and commitment and things like, she have the best husband in the world, be there for her, provide, made a promise to be the best version of myself that I can be, be the best husband I can be.

It would be interesting to see what the wedding ring mean to you, is it the same, is it also about commitment and the bond between a couple?

I was happily married for many years and removing it when she passed was a huge decision.

Took me over 18 months to decide to remove it

I’ve now had both rings melted down and turned into a ring for my daughter

100% this, I loved being married but unfortunately fell out of love with him. It hasn't put me off marriage, however, I do think a lot of people these days don't feel the need for marriage and don't think it makes a difference to their relationship. I've heard a few times. it's just a piece of paper, but on the other hand sometimes it's for financial gain, pensions etc

Each to their own, but I like your way of thinking OP

For me its the commitment to love and support each other through the good the bad and the ugly. Ultimately be best friend's and have fun ,but also the ability to know not everything is perfect all the time and life will get shitty but your partner will be there at the drop of a hat x

For me, it meant that commitment to that 1 person.

Tellingly my ex husband chose not to wear his wedding ring after we married. I never flagged it as a red flag but by jaysus, it was.

Never worn one. It wouldn't look right on my long fingers and also I've always considered it dangerous from a number of perspectives.

However, my cock ring is legendary, looks good on my long penis and Iconsider it to be intrinsically safe. It is not a symbol of commitment to anybody other than to my adoration of and commitment to the magnificent cock which I wear it around!

Not married, never understood the concept.

Majority of marriages end in cheating/ affairs and divorce.

Do you really need a ring and a piece of paper to say you love someone? Hmmmm

Marriage as a concept is a lovely idea. I'm not against doing it again but I don't need it. It guarantees nothing.

I wore a ring. Taking them off during the years of separation was very symbolic for me. If I or my partner chose not to wear one I don't know if I would feel okay with that. I'm of the opinion you ought to be proud of your partner and shout them to the rooftops not disguise their existence or your attachment.

Even if I wasn't legally married I might still agree to wear a ring of some sort if we both wanted it.

Marriage is only as good/strong as the people in it, if their intentions match and are genuine.

There are so many married on here without their partner's knowledge and permission 'for reasons', it's your business/choice but it's hypocrisy in capital letters to spout the sanctity and wonder of it whilst you actively seek to break the vows you took.

Not a downer at all. The forum is a place to post your views, opinions and thoughts, even though some members may try to unofficially moderate you, ignore them. People have the option to skip past a post if they don't agree with it or if it's "a downer" to them.

Hopefully you're getting there

For me it is an outward symbol that I've committed my life to living and being there for someone.

For me I look at it and remember I have a family to care for and love and provide for.

I don't comfort in it when I'm stressed or not in it when I look at it and have memories. Xxx

Not sure about wedding rings.

But my mum and dad aren't around anymore.

There's this very thick, extensive photo album I have of their wedding in 1975.

There's a couple of family friends of mine that are slightly older than me, that I'm still friends with today in it, (when they were toddlers/before I was born). I love looking at this album.

My folks did all the cooking, apart from the wedding cake. So the wedding cost £14.50 in all..I remember my dad telling me..

I love my rings, and I just like wearing them. Most days, I wear both my engagement ring, and my wedding ring. It feels weird when I don't.

When I'm out with fwb, I only wear my engagement ring now. Only because it saves some awkward conversations with strangers 🙈

If you think that love means not having sex with someone else then that is fine for you to do. It's entirely up to you.

A lot of people think that LOVE means something entirely different.

I think that, like me, you can’t understand it. I will never as long as I live get how someone can get off on watching someone they love fuck someone else. And no I don’t believe it means their relationship is “more secure” at all. Having said that it doesn’t mean anyone is right or wrong, as long as everyone is agreed then I don’t see the issue, it’s just not for me. I also remember what site I’m on too and that my view won’t be the majority view.

There is no right or wrong. I couldn't watch someone else fuck my Mrs but for some people that’s a big turn on. Neither is right or wrong, it’s just different opinions.

But I can separate love and sex, they are not the same thing. I’ve had sex with lots of people I wasn’t in love with, and they weren’t in love with me, long before we ever discovered fab.

Love can enhance having sex and sex can enhance a loving relationship. But it’s very easy to have one without the other.

I don’t think a marriage bereft of sex for a long period of time is healthy, unless there’s mutual agreement or medical reasons. The most significant difference between my closest friends and my partner is I have sex with my partner. But I don't need to get married to have the same level commitment to that relationship.

They say marriage is for life but in more cases than not, that’s not true. Having been through a horrible divorce that dragged out over 3 years, the only winners were the lawyers.

I think people are all to quick to judge others who don’t live by the same self imposed rules as they do. Just live and let live. Other people’s choices are exactly that, their choices. Who are we to tell them they are wrong?

We love each other above all else - we face life’s trials and tribulations together as well as reaping the rewards….there is nowhere else we’d rather be than with each other, and no-one we’d rather be with…and every day that goes by I love my wife a little bit more..

Marriage, to us, is not something to be entered lightly as seems increasingly the case these days (see ‘Married at First Sight’ kind of thing) but is instead a commitment to support and be there for each other for all eternity… our rings are, to us, an important and powerful symbol of that both to each other and the universe …

As long as any couple know what love involves for them and what is and isn't acceptable in their relationship then that love isn't broken.

if you genuinely truly loved your partner you wouldn't want sex with anyone else so just cheating wether they know about it or not "

My other half only receives sex with men outside of our sexual relationship due to me not having the equipment to do that, he doesn’t have sex with other females and we have a great sex life and an amazing relationship, he isn’t cheating on me and I know he loves me

"Getting Married and taking vows means you want to commit to one person why get married if you want to have different partners I am not sad at all if genuinely loved partner wouldn't be sleeping around that's not love

Being committed to one person but having fun with other people together isn’t the same thing.cheating is completely different people who cheat are breaking that commitment (mr)it's a con if you sleeping with other people that's not genuine love if you truly love your partner you wouldn't sleep around just excuses

So the couples on here don’t genuinely love each other you’re a sat woman if you believe that

Why isn’t it? He is bisexual, I knew he was bisexual before we got together, so why would I make him go “straight” and change him?

Miss Natural.

Having read all the negative posts about how swinging couples cannot possibly love each other, I feel this site may not be right for you.

Love isn't the same for everyone. Every relationship is different. I don't think you or anyone else has the right to tell people that their relationship and love is invalid or not real.

Just because you don't understand how successful swinging, loving, relationships work, doesn't mean the people in those relationships don't love each other.

I'm not married, had divorce all around me friends neighbours parents. Today my sister is going through a divorce. Another sister divorced in 90's.

Personally I think it sucks. It's set you up for heartbreak, stress, insecurity and vulnerability. So the wedding ring symbolic to negative issues for me.

"It can mean many things for everyone.

"

We've have been together 26 years and married for 24 years.

We don't wear our wedding rings (both used to be skinnie minnies and they no longer fit).

We are both very committed to each other and have a very close bond, we don't feel we need to wear a ring to symbolises that or to show anyone else our love ❤️

I've met a number of married bi guys for whom it's a thrill to openly keep their wedding ring on during sex with a man.

It somehow emphasises the deviousness of his behaviour.

Can't deny, it's horny!

I had an affair with a married guy who was going to leave his wife for me.

He didn't in the end, but he did give me his wedding ring as a sign of is commitment to me.

He's still with her, but I still have the ring.

That’s so nice, I casted three identical love rings for my three daughters.

To me, it’s a symbol of what you agreed to when you got married, commitment, sacrifice, honesty, loyalty all that good stuff. It’s a reminder to you then and others

This thread really got me thinking. I still have my wedding ring from my first marriage and I can't do anything with it. I can't get rid of it because even though the marriage ended it really did mean something and I don't regret it. I can't wear it for the same reason. It's just sitting in a box.

I like the idea of using it to make something else, maybe something to give to our son who will always be the reason my ex still means something to me.
