I saw on the news today that it’s 10 years since Lemmy from Motörhead died, although not until the end of the year, but they’re putting a statue up of him in his home of Stoke on Trent

Are statues now an outdated thing or are they still considered to be an honour

Who do you think should have one and why?

I do wonder would Lemmy have wanted a statue anyway....I've a feeling he would have thought...what a damn stupid idea 😸

I think you're right. I can't see Lemmy giving that idea much shrift. 🙄

I guess in some ways it’s like the “blue plaques” on houses that say someone was born there or lived there for a bit

It may make people visit or they are just proud he is from there

I think statues are outdated now. Unless they can stand the test of time then they’ll just create a division.

The Margaret Thatcher statue is constantly defaced and egged in Grantham and I’m sure there’s a lot of people in Grantham that don’t want it there.

They have statues in Liverpool of Ken Dodd, Cilla Black, John Lennon and the Beatles. They are probably some of the most photographed monuments when visiting Liverpool.

Outside the Liverpool ground are statues of Bob Paisley and Bill Shankly. Outside Everton’s ground is one of Dixie Dean.

These are people who were idolised by the majority and the people are proud they represented them.

I doubt a statue of Lemmy isn’t going to create chaos but political figures, monarchs and the like, are always going to create controversy.

On a lighter note, there’s a statue of Queen Victoria in Liverpool, when if look at a particular angle she looks like she has a cock 😂…that also is a very popular pic taken too!

I don’t think celebrities need any more worship, even talented ones. I’m a fan of him but he is immortalised in his work.

I would rather see a statue of someone unknown but made some noble contribution in their respective city/town.

Musicians/actors can do without.
