As I give thanks for my freedom on the 80th anniversary of VE day my thoughts are with the people of Ukraine and their fight for freedom, already lost in some large areas.

Victory in Europe day does not need to be shared with the current conflict in the Ukraine. That's a separate war, can we not just remember our own war heroes without having to bring other wars in the world into it?

Lifes Departure Lounge

I have mixed memories of V E Day in 1945 when I was all of 5 years old.

Happy memories of the street parties, not so happy though with the firework displays, a stray firework landed on my legs and I finished up at the local cottage hospital having my burns treated.

This is the first VE Day with no Royals who were there at the celebrations 80 years ago.
