Just listening to a discussion on the radio about customers who haggle when making purchases, I'm surprised by the amount who haggle, even when making small purchases, have you ever haggled if so, what saving did you make?

Not sure it's something we could do, would be to

Oh yes I haggle - I learnt from me dad who was that tight when he opened his wallet the queen blinked.

Best deal I ever got was when my washing machine packed up with a dozen terry nappies in off I went to get a second hand washer and was quoted £150 not incuding delivery - I ended up with a washing machine and a under counter feeezer plus delivery for £150

Hubby couldnt believe the brass neck of me asking for it cheaper I said well a new one would only be a tenner dearer so why not ask the worst they can do is say no!!

Got a good deal on my fridge freezer as well a few years ago - its a amzing how much a store manager will give you when you look the part of a harassed mum with 2 kids in tow!!

Too right I haggle

At the end of the day you have nothing to lose by haggling, you either get it cheaper or you pay the asking price so you can only win or break even.

We bought a new dining table and chairs just after the holidays which had been reduced from £1050 to £459 - a bargain already but I told the guy in the shop that I had 400 quid to spend if he knocked the extra 59 quid off that he'd have a deal, so we got the bog standard, "I'll have to ask my Boss" reply - which he did, and bingo ! Dining table and 4 leather chairs for 400 quid - just for the sake of asking

In certain countries, it is the norm to haggle.

Personally, I feel too embarrassed to haggle.

I may set a price of what I am willing to pay, depending on budget and how much I like the item for sale, and ask the vendor if he/she would sell it to me at that price.

If the answer is no, then I shall walk away.
