It always feels a bit "scammy" when somebody insists on moving straight away. I always decline and insist on a bit more back and forth here before moving anywhere else.

Too many scam artists or even folk trying to sell content on here these days

A lot of people live on whatsapp and never bother answering ordinary phone calls or text messages.

Effectively,! Seldom bother staying in touch with them any more as I have no intention of moving there to join them.

With me, there is less concern over the urgency of moving there than there is over being there at all.

It’s hard to build up a connection 3/4 ways on here - it feels like you’re on dial-up internet, waiting for a reply and if it’s a couple wondering which one has replied.

If we feel the conversation is going well and there’s a connection then we ask to take it away from FAB…it makes a difference to us, as we can see how invested people are and they can also see how much each one of us replies.

We don’t share numbers so it’s telegram and we’ve never scammed anyone…

I think many guys feel they’ll get undivided attention if you move to whatsapp or telegram etc- truth is that I forget who they are and the chat dies over there- whereas when I am online here, I truly *am* here and would be able to chat… on whatsapp I wouldn’t be so “available” so to speak.

Just to clarify - we wouldn’t go onto a different platform without chatting for a while on here and exchanging face pics.

No point getting on telegram and realising there’s no attraction.

We like to meet early if there’s an attraction and connection to see if that’s there in person too.

We’ve never thought of anyone being part of a scam - as we only chat to verified users and not randoms.

It can be, especially for couples where you can have 3/4 way conversations where you can see who's commenting.

But as always, it's personal choice when and if you take things off site. Nobody NEEDS to do anything they're not happy with and you can always say no.

Personally it's only ever something I/we've done when looking to progress things with someone we've established interest with on here to make planning meets easier and contact swifter. People aren't always logged on to Fab but a ping on a message app tends to get noticed and picked up more promptly.

And much like here, you can easily block someone should there be a need. 🤷‍♂️

Messaging on here when couples are trying to get to know each other is a pain in the arse. Its slow and feels clunky.

Plus you never really know who's talking.

Whatsapp is far superior.

Recently, as an exception, I suggested moving onto to Telegram. There was context behind it: I wanted to share photographs that I took on a smartphone photography workshop that I attended. It was the more convenient option.

I'm happy to move platforms if we're chatting well, but have never initiated it myself, don't want to put any pressure on anyone. Some of the messaging platforms out there are better suited to chatting. I've recently been introduced to Telegram which seems very secure, phone number can be withheld, it will notify if the other user downloads a copy of your picture or video and media can set to auto destruct (disappears from the chat) as soon as the other person has viewed it

It depends at what stage messaging has gotten to. This is a sex site, you're not vetting life partners here.

That said, we'd say the point where we'd expect more direct comms is when we've actually set a date and place for a meet.

There's a lot of time wasters on here but from our experience of trying pushing for contact or WhatsApp numbers early isn't a good the best filter. We can certainly understand why some people try it though as time wasters are frustrating.

I've had a few messages in the last couple of months from women looking to move the chat to an external app.

I don't have the app and told them I had deleted all chat apps because I wasn't using them and I don't swap phone numbers with anyone I haven't met at least a couple of times.

Strangely enough that seems enough to put them off and I don't hear from them again even though they were extremely keen to chat beforehand.

These were women with more verifications than I have and who are very active on the site.

When you start the registration it asks if you want to sync your contacts - say no to that and no one will know you’re on it.

Telegram gets used for many things so it’s not a seedy chat site…I’m in a chat group that has nothing to do with sex 😇

I'm only happy to move once comfortable the conversation will last and the rapport is genuine (although have had chats die following the move over and found that may not have been the case)

I do much prefer Telegram though, for the fact voicenotes are a godsend (cos I can waffle a fair bit and it's easier to talk than type!), GIF's are the worlds funniest form of communication, and photo's (not just the filth) are a better quality.

But also, this text box on here is shocking; the amount of times I've lost three or four paragraphs of writing just from a doubletouch of the screen, or minimising the window and reopening it; drives me nuts!

We don't give our number out - you don't have to with Telegram, just a username. It's not connected in anyway to PayPal. I've used it for 6 years without a single problem.

As a couple on here, or when chatting with a couple, it's really difficult to ascertain who's chatting.

For this reason, we do like to move the chat over to a group chat, like Telegram, once everyone is happy. It's just easier to have dynamic conversations and all know who's talking.

Also if I'm talking to just one person I get a wall of yellow because I'm online and I feel the pressure to read them all when all I want to do is either respond to a message or check if the last one has been responded to.

Far easier elsewhere. You also can't call from here and I do like to speak to someone before taking it further.

If the app develops ever turn this place into a real messaging app then I'd keep it all in one place but until then I will continue using here as a screening place before moving elsewhere

If there's mutual interest from the start, it's better for me to move on to telegram or whaatsapp, as I use telegram mostly for fab meets, and I have a second whaatsapp that I use only for these type of encounters, which cannot be traced back to any of my personal information. I noticed that conversations on fab rapidly loose engagement due to the "ping pong" dynamic (they send a message, than 2 hours pass you send a message, than back and forth until it just becomes boring) and I prefer real time conversations and engagements...plus the only way you can know someone is not fake or a scammer, is if you facetime them. I say have a platform that you can use for real time conversations and videocalls (but do not have any of your personal information) and move away from fab as soon as possible, if you actually want to meet someone- the more time you spend on fab messaging with someone the less likely it is you will actually meet.

I (Bev) have a 'fab phone' that I use purely for WhatsApp conversations.

I find conversations stumble on here for all the reasons mentioned above.

I do not however move straight there. If I see potential for a meet after we've been conversing on here, I'll switch.

It actually works well for me. I like to know someone before I give up my free time to meet.

WhatsApp is a great filter let me know whobis genuinely interested and who just wants to get their rocks off

It really annoys me when people want to move onto other platforms right away. It's hard keeping up with lots of different conversations on lots of different platforms. Some want telegram, some want WhatsApp, some want discord. Never Snapchat (they definitely just want some wank fodder). I find a lot of the time it's because they just want your undivided attention.

If I feel early on that I like someone and I'm enjoying the conversation I will move across elsewhere, but I usually like to chat and get to know someone on here first before deciding that. If there's an indication of wanting to meet up and arrange plans then I'm also happy to move elsewhere. But when the opener or second/third message is asking then sorry its a no ⛔

Very odd, blocked on both telegram and here

But in general I much prefer to communicate on here, possibly after a successful social I would be inclined to use other platforms

This has probably already been said but the thread is too long. On WhatsApp, access is via a phone number. You have probably already given them your first name. A google on both may well give them more info, particularly if you are self employed. With more information they may find you on Facebook. It doesn't take a lot to find people on here and extort or just simply sell your details on to scammers.
