Yeah I've been. Was dull as hell, the gig was obviously guilty so open and shut on our one. Everyone agreed within about 2 mins that he was guilty. I was trying my best not to fall asleep during the court sessions lol

I managed to swerve it once, being self employed, but couldn’t get out of it the second time. Spent two long, boring weeks sat in a locked room to not be selected. Met some interesting people from all walks of life though

Yeah. Case was in full swing until half way through the prosecution the victim pulled the case. It was getting really juicy and so it was a disappointment, both because she basically let the prick off with it, and secondly it was really interesting and dare I say it fun!

There's nothing worse than opening a letter and finding it's a Jury citation. I work offshore so it's an absolute ball ache. 3 times now I've been cited and have to get an excusal letter from my company and deliver it to the court. The pay you get for attending is shockingly low. If I went I'd have to take a week off work - which would effectively be 2 weeks pay as I do time for time, so it's just not feasible.

Our local court never has any interesting cases anyway.

I’ve done it a couple of time and I thought it was fascinating, but it did drag in a bit. Each time the trial lasted a couple of days.

I was fired a third time but I had something arranged for those days so I’m not sure if I can be called again.

First time was put on a 2 week murder case.

second time I was sent home on day one as a reserve. Day Two they told me I was no longer on reserve and to go live my life.

Told work I was still on Jury service for the rest of the week 😉

I wanted to do it as a job when it finished... It can be a bit frustrating though as you can't ask questions that you think need answering to get a better understanding of the situation... But it is, or can be very interesting

First was a boring 2 weeks, 2 cases that were both thrown out by the judge.

Second was a very interesting 6 weeks on a major case.

I've seen the case on a TV show recently, which was a surprise as it was a good 10 years plus ago

I've done it. My main recollections are boredom and the fact that some people wanted to say guilty based on no evidence. He sounded dodgy and they wouldn't have nicked him if they weren't sure are not reasons to convict someone.

Evidence is. And they had none.

One was domestic violence

One was a fatal (pinched) rta

Both pretty awful to sit through tbh.

exactly this we get the time off but they won't pay we earn 150 225 a day so that's the minimum they should pay if was called up .

Awful, disorganised, disappointing.

My best friend as a kid got his as soon as he turned an adult and I was pretty jealous ever since...

Until it was my turn (finally).

Your experience may differ so I don't want to dampen spirits, but it was a cluster fuck of a mess. I was told to expect long waits... no problem, but they nothing became of them.

The court messed up so while I was picked I only sat one session. Spend a week and a bit travelling there, waiting and then getting sent home.

Was disappointed as I was led to believe it was an interesting process, but in reality it was a clown cart.

Mine was similar .. the two girls accusing gave different stories before the case that was given in evidence during .. so many inconsistencies the judge even mentioned it …. In deliberations two juror point blank said they were guilty as it could happen as some thing similar happened to friends of theirs 5 yrs before … I shit you not .. awful …

I'd acwoman argued with me that the defendant was guilty. No evidence. Witness statements shite and different. Bad parenting to blame. Worse thing was the defendant was a convicted paedophile. Should never have made it to court. Child's mother was a joke.

My employer covered it and claimed a little back from them, and I took my own lunch and they paid for travels... so never out of pocket.

A good few years ago now, an interesting case involving two blokes, money owed, and a firearm…went on for a couple of weeks, and was interesting. He got off, despite most of the jury thinking that yes, he had done it (the other guy was a complete ball bag and deserved what he got, lol).

Paid time off work, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat if I was called up again.

In 2011

Was picked for the first run after Easter so there was 120 new jurors waiting to be chosen. First case involved son of a high ranking officer (in another force). All the way through evidence we all thought guilty - until the last day when something was played in court. Flipped the case. I've never seen anyone more relieved for something to be over (even though it put paid to his hopes of working his way up and showed corruption is rife in SYP). We were told that we had to go back into the selection room at the end of that case as we were obligated to be there for 2 weeks. Usher said we probably would not be chosen again though as they still had a pool of others to choose from. Got picked. She said her girlfriends ex boyfriend had attacked her. As a rxxx survivor I wasn't wanting to do the case as I thought it'd be reliving things I'd rather not. Turned out it was a case of woman scorned and all that. We saw him after we had acquired- being discharged and carrying his worldy possessions in a clear plastic bag. He saw us and gave us thumbs up.

Both were interesting but involved sooooo many hours of sitting about or walking round Sheffield on 3 hour lunches.

Called up 2 time and been on a case twice!! There is a lot of waiting around but if you get picked it’s not too bad as you know you’ve got something to do. If you don’t take something to occupy the waiting around it is a very dull experience.

I didn’t mind it, it’s an interesting experience.
