A great question, I saw nothing that broke rules. Or have I got selective eyesight.

I don't think you can talk about mail received or the content of it.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Here's a thing....?

Is a genuine spontaneous rant the same as someone simply taking a calculated opportunity to vent off a impassioned viewpoint that’s been simmering in their mind for a while ?.

Eh!....

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

I'll rekindle my pledge to shake a hero by the hand today if I see one.

To be perfectly honest I am tired of people constantly comparing our armed forces to other professions.

"To be perfectly honest I am tired of people constantly comparing our armed forces to other professions.

Because the vast majority of men and women that join our armed forces don't do so for the plaudits, or to place themselves on a higher pedestal in life than a footballer/Asda worker/Lollipop Man.

I think respect for others is a very personal thing and not something to be punted around like a competition.

I sort of felt that the op was looking for affirmation that he was more of a hero/legend than fergie just because he was in the armed forces.

I fully respect the forces and what they do but I thought it was wrong to jump on a successful sports manager even if, like me, you don't like him or football!

I cringe when I hear anyone heralding vocational choices in a manner that suggests that simply by association someone must therefore be heroic or respected automatically ….

would tend to agree, whilst recognising there were certain things that were attractive to a 17 yr old it was a job when i joined..

that was my perception..

have to recognise times change and with recent conflicts post 1st gulf war there is more media attention and more guys n gals have suffered which also highlights the job..

would go further and say that for the majority of people in all the other professions that were mentioned in the previous thread..

they also see what they do as 'a job'..

dont think he was personally, think he was referring to others he had worked with/had knowledge of etc..
