The Mighty Will was born on April 23rd, and allegedly died on this date too.

Do you have a favourite play or line of Shakespeare ?

Do you ever go to see his work performed ?

I once played Lady Macbeth in a school production and I was so preoccupied with the blood on my hands I fell off the stage

She is one of his greatest villains, absolutely terrifying.

Love going to the RSC at Stratford, saw Hamlet quite recently.

Well yes, I'm sure they do but maybe not given to someone so distracted by their hands they fall off stage. I never got another big role in primary after baby Jesus's head rolled off into the audience when I was meant to be his mother

.

My absolute favourite... probably The Taming of the Shrew. Or A Midsummer Night's Dream. Oh and Macbeth. I was really tempted to go wanky but it wouldn't be true.

Favourite lines include "Love sought is good, but given unsought is better".

Yes I do. I've seen some truly fantastic productions, most recent was Much Ado About Nothing.

You obviously got Mary mixed up with Herod.

Do you think Shrew is a bit problematic for modern audiences?

I did Midsummer Nights Dream for O'Level English Lit, so it has easily become my fave play from The Bard. I've seen it many times and produced in many different ways, but probably my favourite production was at Shakespeare's Globe in London in 2023.

That said, Sh!tfaced Shakespeare's version of that and other plays have had me in stitches over the years.

The recent Jamie Lloyd production or Much Ado About Nothing earlier this year (with Tom Hiddleston as Benedick) was absolutely stunning!

I try and get to The Globe every year, and see touring productions quite regularly. I prefer the comedies, but I quite enjoy The Scottish Play and Hamlet as well.

Always astounds me just how well the plays still translate to modern life...

Best lines:

Twelfth Night: Dost thou think because thou art virtuous there shall be no more cakes and ale?" - Sir Toby Belch totally appreciating what's important in life!

Also less upbeat Macbeth's soliloquy: Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, And then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury. Signifying nothing.
