Weve been decorating,and we always use DULUX paint ,where they make it up in store to the colour you want.its about £25 for a 2.5 litre tin,we bought B&Q funky colours paint £12.99 for 2.5 litres,so far weve had to buy 2 tins of this and need a third,Its Shite,never ever changing again,the old saying "you get what you pay for"

what thing have you tried to do on the cheap and found it to be awful

Paint as well. In a front room the only thing I wanted to paint white was the fireplace (You know that cove that sticks out?).

I bought Wilkinson's own brand of white emulsion because it was cheap and the cove wall was already light anyway, so I thought I'd get away with it.

Stuff was like water, still needed about 5 bloody coats. _

First decorating lesson learned.

I always use b&q paint and never had a problem, 2 coats usually sort it nicely, bloody hate decorating though x

The guy who does my decorating will only use dulux. I was very lucky when i got mine as i didnt realize there was a sale. I needed 3 tins and it was buy two get one free. Same with my wall paper got three for two. I just struck lucky the day i went to get it

Been there, bought 20 for £1 in Poundland...say no more.

When renovating my house I had teams of specialist coming and going giving me quotes. The firm to sand, stain and varnish were measuring up when the decoraters came to price the job. The carpenter was there when the bathroom fitters were there.

The floor guys said they also decorated and offered huge discount if I used them, as did the carpenter. He worked for Homebase fitting kitchens and bathrooms so I used him to do my carpentry, bathroom and kitchen.

I've lived in my house 10 years and only did the house as my daughter was getting married and I was putting family up from abroad and I wanted to make a good impression. £15,000 I paid...with the exception of the floors which are stunning, everything needs redoing.

Looks good from a distance but standard not good close up. Lesson learnt don't pay cash, don't pay in the dark!

Tile paint for me. I thought I could get away without using a primer and just a few coats of paint. It didn't look nice so had to redo it all again

I know it sounds a bit daft. But I've done loads of house renovations in my time and the best paint to use on ceilings and Walls is exterior masonry paint !!! If it's a ceiling get the White smooth finish paint. One coat is usually enough and it dries back flat without streaks so it all looks even. On Walls I have used sandtex masonary paint, especially good covering dark or blemished Walls and yes, it can be coloured, ( my mate works at a store where they mix paint ).
