I see lots of folks plugging in their laptops to charge in coffee shops. I’m always curious whether they actually provide that service, or is it just folks pinching electricity. The sockets just look like they’re meant to plug a hoover in.

Yes, it's provided at most. Especially any venue that has them at practically every table.

And it works to get custom in. A chain coffee shop I know turned the circuit breaker off for the sockets for some time. I guess to save on electricity and stop students camping out there for the whole day on one small coffee purchase. However once they realised foot fall was declining they turned them back on again. I am currently using one of their sockets now

The one I go to has USB sockets. But the internet connection is shite just now so I may go else where until it’s sorted.

The cost of charging a phone will be factored into the cost of the coffee.

They do look similar but the ones for hoovers have a large H on them so they don't get confused for the ones for Laptops... I forget which letter is on those.

Public transport have sockets and usb ports.... so does most every other municipal building ..... sign of the times we are a bit past a ring to tie up the horse now or a place for the brolly.
