"This is where I always get chased out of town but ... I didn't like them shoot me now this. Banal, MOR dire for people with no ears. " How can you say that, even if you dont like a band surely you can see why people like them. I cant stand the beatles but i can see what the attraction was

"I should like them, but I don't hold them in a particularly high regard. People go on about how great they were live, I just thought they were mediocre. Are you for real " Everyone is entitled to their opinion

"It was a bit of a joke - people always go on about them being fantastic, but if I'm honest I really can't see the appeal. Each to their own though." I agree with you. Sure, Freddy was a showman but to me it was more cabaret than rock n roll. Brian, Roger & John pretty much just stand there and don't add anything visually. If you compare Queen in their heyday (around 1986ish) to bands like Van Halen during the same era you'll see how ordinary queen really were. Just type "Van Halen 5150 live" into YouTube to see what I mean. There's no comparison, better musicians, better performance more energy.

"I wouldn't claim to be a fan, but they were without doubt masters of their craft and recorded some timeless classic and performed some amazing live shows They seemed to create there own place in the musical establishment without a natural rival,,,,, I’m at a loss to compare them to any band before or after the untimely death of Freddie….. Well said I can’t even think of any band since who’s work displays a Queen type influence,,, "

Interesting you think their heyday was 1986 Personally consider everthing after 1977 was a sell out, pandering to record company execs & bank managers. Taylor was a great drummer, Deacon a fair bassist, May was too controlled & Freddie should have been a ballet dancer, rock band ? Not in the pure sense of the term.

They were bigger at that point than at any other time. They were all fair musicians, none of them were exceptional. If you look at Van Halen you have Eddie who is considered to be the most influential guitar player since Hendrix, not just musically either, his home made guitars changed the way the instrument was built after they came along in 1978 and he was instrumental in the development of so many innovations and still continues to do so to this day with his EVH line of guitars and amps.

"Define exciting, I've watched a lot of top bands over the years and Alice Cooper or ZZ Top put on a good stage show, to name but a few. Is Eric Clapton exciting, probably not, but when I was at school EC=GOD " He's a great player, did tons of great work through the 60's and 70's but live he's as dull as dishwater! His music is also a little introvert and more for him than his audience. Which is cool in many respects. I always preferred Rory Gallagher over Clapton, he had the chops, the depth and could perform in a live situation...
