I grew up with a tradition of hard boiled eggs, blessed in the church the day before (with other food items) and shared between the family members at Easter breakfast. So no, not overly keen on chocolate eggs though I might indulge at times.

Eggs have nothing to do with Easter. So it depends how religious are.

Never been a massive fan of chocolate eggs.

The symbolism of eggs and the Easter hare (not rabbit) is from the Pagan story of Ostara. No fucking idea when chocolate was crowbarred into the mix.

1873-75 depending on whether you count the fry chocolate version or the Cadbury version.

I do find it a bit amusing that in reality, Easter is actually more about the eggs than jeebus, given the the pre Christianity ostara story

I don't agree. Chocolate eggs have nothing to do with Easter. Eggs, on the other hand, symbolise new life, new beginning. Christianity adapted that pagan interpretation and added the interpretation of the empty egg shell being the empty grave of Jesus. Also, traditionally during Lent, Christians were supposed to abstain from eating animal products like eggs (hence Pancake Day, to use up the ingredients), and Easter became the time to indulge in those again, as part of the celebrations.

I lived the first 30 Easters of my life without chocolate Easter eggs, so yeah, you survive

I was partial to a Hotel Chocolate 70% single origin one when I was younger but now I am not fussed. Used to do easter egg hunts for the kids when they were younger.

I absolutely love easter eggs, the shells. This year I bought us the Yorkie incredible egg (biscuit and raison), and also the extra thick dairy milk..... they have both been devoured and we thoroughly enjoyed them.

Its creme eggs that make Easter for me.

Also it's not Easter without the outrage about the word Easter not being on the box every year

Like I said though, surely they were better pre craft when they used dairy milk chocolate and not the cheaper one?

As for Easter outrage, I find identity politics a bit tedious now so blank it out

Living in north London I have also come to discover that Greek orthodox use Julian calendar for Easter and they are indeed aligned with the moon this year!

I find the smashing of eggs before Sunday insulting to my being, the shame of having no discipline to wait, like opening presents before Christmas 😔

Same, my local Tesco still has Quality Street tubs on sale but hardly reduced the price whichis probably why they still have them. They were swimming in eggs Friday so crossing my fingers for leftover sale eggs.

Nah, doubt it.. could of sworn the prices went up a bit yesterday.

To be fair, I'm trying to reduce the amount of chocolate I'm eating so it's been a huge temptation really walking down the Easter eggs aisle, walking down with eyes close is not recommended

. Yes I believe it happens every 4 years or so but usually on a leap year so not sure what happened this year but it’s all good.I must say that all the councils are very accommodating in North London with us Greeks allowing roads to be closed off near the churches so that we can do our candle it processions.

Waiting for them to be half price on Tuesday. I have been working over the Easter period, so looking forward to next weekend where I can finally take a break and enjoy a chocolate egg. Anything that is not Mars, as they got rid of the wonderful, delicious, and very missed bounty bar.
