Is a song sacred to a certain singer or artist

Just watched Bohemian Rhapsody sung by Benson Boone, if you haven’t seen it I really recommend it and Brian May looks amazing

But is such a classic Queen and Freddy Mercury song too much of a classic to be covered

What covers do you prefer or do you think should not have been done?

Rolf harris' wobble board version of led zepps stairway to heaven has to be the ultimate low...even before the sinister stuff about him came out.

Took it from heaven and placed it below the sewer.

Madonna's American Pie. 💩💩

and I know this will be controversial, but I just don't get what the fuss is over Disturbed's murdering of 'Sound of Silence'

Oh, Tori Amos covered Elton John's "Sacrifice". It's a superior version in every way.

"Will Young's cover of Light My Fire, should never have been released! "

...whereas Shirley Bassey's version is one of the greatest songs ever!

No a song isn't sacred in my opinion.

I hear loads of different versions of songs, good, bad or indifferent.

I never forget someone telling me that they thought it was a shame that Cornetto had used the original Elvis song for 'just one Cornetto'🎶🎵🎼

Thank you!! Everyone looks at me like I've just made a human sacrifice when I say this. I mean, it's good... but it's not THAT good 🤷‍♀️

Reading

I recently listened to Gregory Porter absolutely murdering Sting & Eric Clapton's "It's Probably Me".

With an extremely uncomfortable and pained Sting sat in the front row.

The worlds worst cover of a great track....

No, by that logic OP, Shakespeare's plays could only ever be performed in full Elizabethan dress. It is the role of art to reimagine and reinterpret.

Camberley occasionally doncaster

I'm seeing postmodern jukebox this month (8th time). Some of their retro versions of modern songs make the originals sound like poor copies.

Songs are songs, why should people be upset if an artist made a cover?

It's one of the few covers they did but they made it their own.

I don't think songs are sacred. It's not as if the newer versions eliminate the originals.

I much prefer Aretha's version of Son of a Precher Man to Dusty's.

I believe the song was written for Aretha but she turned it down as she had concerns about the lyrics (her Father was a Preacher). Then Dusty had a huge hit which changed her mind !

Bohemian Rhapsody to me is always about Wayne's World !

Oh really? I never knew that! I'm so glad she changed her mind.
