This is a massive thing right?

The anxiety, sadness etc that comes from the post alcohol high- it is a depressant after all!

Is there some of you who stopped drinking purely due to the moods it put you in?

I've only had a few hangovers in my life.

I do get awful hangxiety though. I think it's a combination of things, I'm quite excitable so before anything (including the Sainsburys shop) I'm all whoop whoop and then I get a bit of a drop from the adrenaline leaving. Also, sometimes I can say ridiculous things. Kiss people.

Dial up the self care, it'll pass soon. Things are never as bad as they feel (this applies to hangxiety 99% of the time).

Wherever the wind takes me

I stopped drinking because I couldn’t handle the three day hangover from a few glasses of wine!

It literally feels like I’ve been poisoned.

Albeit that is just wine. I’d quite happily slurp up Rum or Sloe Gin till the cows come home!

Different alcohol hits me differently. Vodka makes me bad tempered. Beer makes me tired and uncomfortable. Gin makes me horny AF. Wine chatty.

Yeah I 100% think this is me. I get very excited about things, planning my outfit, style etc. Or excited to do things as simple as my shop! So I definitely think it’s the downer of it being over. I think it’s wine that does it more than beer/ other drinks.

I’m not usually quite as bad as this! But I feel really mentally crap! Devil drink!❤️

I can’t drink vodka for this very reason. I’ll start a fight with a tree because the leaves are blowing at me funny.

Yes! I won’t touch it. I found spiced rum is fine if I want something I’m ok on all night.

I was a happy d*unk, laughed at a few wrong people in my time... Unfortunately for them, I can still fight when I'm d*unk. Nearly fell out a hotel balcony when d*unk, fallen asleep in many a pub toilet, even had to be let out the back doors by bouncers once as I was the last one in there.. Then there was the shitting myself on the streets of toulouse incident.

Needless to say I stopped drinking and haven't touched a drop for 14yrs

I never have more than 2 drinks or so. I can’t imagine losing control with alcohol or any other substance. I always have to be aware of my surroundings.

I drink way too much. Yeah it's a huge thing. If you are struggling I have some great places I can point you to. I haven't committed to fixing it yet but I've found some great resources looking and from friends.

I’m far from any problem with alcohol. I only drink when I have something on, never alone in the house. Maybe 2 times a month I drink. Sometimes not even once. Depends on social calendar!

I never knew this was a thing?

I’ve always had a hangover, headache, tiredness, felt generally poisoned, but never really felt down with it. Then again I rarely feel properly down anyway, I think my silly instilled manliness kicks in and tells me everything will be okay and that everything is temporary and everything ultimately is okay at some point in time, I just have to wait for it…

…appreciate that’s absolutely no use to anyone but myself, but that’s my 50p worth x

Yes I get this, I found this got worse with age too. My hangovers would last a couple of days but I would also get depressed and low for a week after a massive night out. I get the same though when I've been to a swingers club event and I haven't even drank alcohol. It's usually just the adrenaline rush and then the big drop after that puts you in that headspace. I don't drink often now because I can't face the days of feeling shit after. It will pass. But try sticking to one drink that you know doesn't make you feel so bad after.

In the west.

When I was younger and drank much more than I do now I never felt any anxiety. But now that I hardly drink, I can’t take the hangovers, I get it every time I’ve had a bucket load.

Well that's great. So yeah, the aftermath is inevitable really. Enjoy in moderation 😁😘

I stopped drinking alcohol in Jan 2020 and I've never regretted.

Sobriety has been amazing. I highly recommend it.

If you're not ready to commit, try 100 days alcohol free and see how you feel.

I just want to thank everyone here for introducing me to the word ‘hangxiety’. I like a good portmanteau.

And Misskxxyv (which I’m still pronouncing as ‘Misschief’ by the way) … go hug the dogs. That always helps me when I get it.

I've only started drinking in the past year and never drank to the point of having a hangover. I've been tipsy and enjoy the buzz I get from that and that's pretty much as far as I'll go with it. So I think I'm ok, really

Post alcohol blues Is definitely a thing. I think scientifically it’s because you’re having a good time and it’s something to do with endorphins and brain chemicals and all that shizz.

I have cut back massively on the last few years. Sometimes I could go out and have 3 or 4 beers and have a huge hangover. The next time I could have 6 or 7 and be fine. Now I am at the point where I can day drink pretty well. But I get rubbish sleep. And as a single dad. The sleep has to be the priority lol

As the saying goes, when the fun stops, start drinking again.🍾

Adult advice though is go easy. Alcohol is a right beast if you can't control it.

I haven't stopped drinking altogether. Witnessing it destroy the lives of people I care about has definitely altered my attitude toward it though.

Well done mate on the 14 years, I’m just behind you (13 & a half years) and could tell similar tales of excess, amazed I’m still here when I think of some if the situations I found myself in tbh. Also had some great times on the pi$$ it has to be said, but no one is immortal & you have to rein it all in at some point if you want to hang around & continue loving life…(Mr)

I rarely drink partly because of this and after years of never having hangovers I now do, the evening isn't worth the feelings afterwards.

I hit a point where I realised I was drinking pretty much every night so had to take control.

No booze in the house unless guests are coming over, no solo trips to the pub, only if meeting friends.

What I didn't realise was the slow mental decline that alcohol caused. I didn't get hangovers as I never got blind d*unk, I did suffer with a flat mood, lethargy, feeling bloated all the time and always felt like I had a bad sleep. Now I'm back happy and in full shagger mode

There are alcoholics in my family. They put me in a very bad mood.

I do drink but only occasionally. It can have a negative effect on my mood if I'm already feeling a bit low but generally it doesn't. Possibly because I rarely have more than two.

I believe it's affected by the gut biome.

Sometimes I can drink loads and be fine. If my stomach isn't happy and I'm worried I get the after effects of alcohol, not just the tiredness.

When I was severely distressed I used to get seriously bad nerves and anxiety after drinking, so I stopped for years.

I'm fine most of the time now, unless I'm stressing out about something, with makes my stomach more anxious and acidy.

Never tasted alcohol in my life by choice.

I never saw the appeal even though all of my friends were drinkers.

I was always the one fighting them for their car keys and driving them home and rescuing them from fights they had started.

Without alcohol they were completely different characters.

One of them didn't touch a drop until he was 21 and following surgery when he was 27 was told by the surgeon that he wouldn't see his 28th birthday unless he gave it up completely.

I don't have anything against alcohol and all my kids drink but I don't understand the thought process behind going out to get blocked.

Going for a night out and having a few too many is understandable but planning in advance to get pissed just seems crazy to me.
