I have fibromyalgia, i was diagnosed with it a couple of years ago. My pain is extremely bad recently and my GP isn't being very helpful with advice. I have looked online for advice on how to deal with the pain. I really need to have some info that i can then ask my GP about and see if he will prescribe something for me.

I did a search on here but the threads were all over a year old so i hope there may be some new advice, info, help etc.

Hi there I'm a fibrob sufferer too and have to agree that my GP isn't much use either.

They have me on cocodomol at the moment which takes the edge off of the pain but I don't want to take too often as it can be addictive being an opioid.

The most useful thing for me was suggested by my physio was hydrotherapy/swimming, as it takes the weight off the joints while at the same time making the muscles stronger.

I feel your pain ... literally

My friend was diagnosed with it, to see him in pain wasn't nice at all...I can only speak from what he said, is that.. it's not as understood or researched as it should be. However he did say that hospitals are starting to carry out clinical studies and new treatments for it, problem is it's only an experimental phase... He volunteered to do a clinical trial, where some patients were given a drug and some were given a placebo...I don't know the outcome of it, neither did he get to find out. however I know it's incurable at the moment and he's still lives with the same pain issues. Have a look and see if there are any new trials or treatments in your area, it may help... My friend also had acupuncture, he said it helped a little bit didn't solve anything.

Good luck!😁👍

Thank you.

Do you go to an ordinary pool and swim or a class designed for fibro ?

At the moment i have so much pain and am exhausted i think i'd struggle to dress and undress etc.

There was a study done with Long Covid at the Uni of Derby led by Professor Mark Faghy using anti-viral meds. It's posted on their website

If people want to google the above it's easily found just I don't want to post a link as it's not a regular youtube..

Wife has suffered this since 1999.

She’s had every treatment going and cannot find relief. This causes depression, which further exasperates the condition.

If you try swimming make sure it’s a hydrotherapy pool as the temperature is important. Warm weather also helps as it encourages more movement. She doesn’t drink alcohol so I can’t say if that helps!

Gabapentin is one drug she’s been on for a long time. There are support groups if you search online, they may offer you some practical help. She was one of the first to be diagnosed as it’s been a battle of to get recognition especially back then. I wish you all the best

I used to work with a young lady who was diagnosed with that. She had to leave employment, but I still see her about.

She has good days and bad days, told me that good days are when the weather is good. She also told me that the only thing that really helps is w*ed.

Had one session with a physionin their hydrotherapy pool but now I just go to the local swimming pool once a week and mainly just soak and also a few simple exercises in the shallow end.

"CBD or THC edibles?"

That's actually a really good idea, codine or opioids isn't good for long term use... Surely your doctor would prescribe CBD or THC given the pain that you are in, surely that's justifiable and meets the criteria for such treatment?. Failing that, make your own, why the hell not!? In for a penny in for a pound! As long as you pay for your electricity and don't sell on your yield. There's no way they would want that kind of media attention for punishing a person in desperation and being forced down that road.I'd love to see that argument in court of a person for whom was desperately in pain and got no help from the system..🤔

I have fibromyalgia and cannot take any painkillers or anti inflammatory medication.

The only slight relief I get is from eating a gluten free diet (really helps the joints), antihistamines, magnesium complex, vitamin B complex and turmeric.

Rest when you can and dont push yourself. Im really bad at this myself.

All the best Op, Dory x

Good question, my friend was recommended an acupuncture specialist by someone he met at the clinical trials...given that it's so rarely understood, I think group knowledge with other sufferers is the helpful way at the moment, I know everyone/case is different, however every little helps given the early experimental stages. There's probably a local group that meet up in your area.😁

I'm wondering if a hot tub in a club might help
