Was just listening to is this it by the strokes and noticed it was 24hrs old 😮 then something else that’s from 1990 & remembered drinking cheap vodka & bopping to it…..

How does it make you feel when that stuff happens? Happy, Sad, Anxious?

I love nostalgia. It bears all the hallmarks of happiness and fond memories. I could ramble about this for hours...heck I remember drinking Moscow Mule from those alcopop days - the copper bottles; I remember getting super excited by sending and receiving SMS messages. In fact I used to get super excited listening to The Human League, Japan (David Sylvian)...

Nostalgia makes me mostly happy, sometimes melancholy, not because I want to live in the past but because certain memories have a comfort about them.

There's a famous episode of Mad Men where Don Draper talks about Nostalgia as an emotional ache, and I think that's right.

I can relate to this. They are great memories & transport me but can make me feel sad it’s gone , like the past literally doesn’t exist anymore does it , it’s as real as a dream or hallucination. I think Nowism fucked me

Did they not used to class nostalgia as a medical condition? Anyway, I get very nostalgic. Some songs can nearly make me cry at the speed that life has passed me by. I'm very much an early 1990's guy so like already said, we seen the rise of modern life happen from the start, and can still vividly remember the life we had before it. So when I hear songs the songs that accompanied the changes or advances it really does make me reminisce, and equally lament and be thankful for what we have now alongside what we had then. I also know some people will be better off now with the advancement of attitudes of society in general, so they may not look back as fondly at the past as me, but I do love getting lost in a memory triggered by The Farm or Northside, TTF etc, not the obvious ones- they don't trigger it so much for some reason.

Me too. Smells just transport me instantly. There’s a certain plant smell. I’m not sure what it is, but whenever I smell it, I’m instantly transported 30 years ago getting off the plane in Darwin Australia.

If someone introduces me to something that I love, be that a song, a food, a place … whatever it is I will always think of them whenever I’m reminded.

Other times not necessarily linked to a person but yeah I love that feeling of revisiting old memories and how I felt at the time. Sometimes it’s bittersweet or amazing times gone, sometimes it’s with relief that I’m not that person or in that situation anymore.

A lot of things remind me of a time/place and I can instantly go back there, but I feel happy doing so.

Even if it’s a bad time I’m transported back to, I’m happy that I’m happier now.

My step-son is 15 and is dance music mad, so I’m loving being nostalgic regaling stories of clubs I went to back in the day and still go to now. I still love the scene just as much now so I can’t wait to take him clubbing.

Sometimes nostalgia can make you feel stuck in the past but it makes me embrace the future too.

Nostalgia is both selective and dangerous.

It's selective in that people just remember the good stuff and forget how much rubbish was in the charts or whatever.

It's also dangerous in that this selective memory tempts people into dismissing modern culture as being inferior.

Looking back things didn't seem so great at the time, over the past few years I've come to realise thing's were definitely not so bad.

What's weird is, I'm not a people person and generally don't like busy places but the thing I miss is busy shopping centres with shops that are open, having a variety of choices of places to go rather than limited to a few big brands.

I also miss pub's that are pub's not this gastro nonsense, a community hub with people socialising, rather than a place full of out of control kid's parents getting shit faced overpriced food and booze.

nostalgia, yes i always drift back to early 80s music great style was great.. pubs were packed people talking face to face,, night clubs always busy,, never a problem finding a trades man you always had one in your local football team,,, shut up dave youve said enough

I'm selective on what I decide to look back on. But some stuff was bloody amazing, went to see Skunk Anansie on Monday due to nostalgia and it was epic. For a few hours I was my teenage self singing along, my knees and back the following morning not so teenage self.
