"Maybe like some others I am not good at changing service providers like broadband, often trying to negotiate a new deal with existing supplier. I did that last week but today decided to switch while I thought I was in the cool off period. I was shocked when was told I was getting a £43 bill for discontinuing a landline I haven't used in four years. So much for customer loyalty and good will. " Same here. I have a broadband, landline and TV package with Virgin. Almost £90 a month now! I rarely use the landline now and the TV channels are just crammed with repeats, game shows and shopping channels. Just a rip off really. Then the TV licence on top. I'm wanting a broadband only package. I'm out of contract so I don't have any issues with fees etc. I know there are several options/providers to choose from, but it's quality of service and good customer service I'm looking for. I've been with Virgin for upwards of 15 years and it seems roping in new customers with generous offers is all they're interested in. Oh, and a smooth no hassle changeover would be good too.

"There is no benefit in customer loyalty any more. They keep inflating the price until you change then they say why you leaving ![]() This is my experience. With Virgin they make you a tempting offer to stay. But that offer locks you into a new 18 month contract. Part way through that new contract they up the price significantly. It's just pure greed.

The very best way to cancel Virgin is to write a letter and send it registered post. Arrange a new service in the meantime and terminate Virgin a couple of days later. Virgin will phone you and offer a really good deal - we pay about £25 for 200 meg broadband. We don't watch live tv so that's a much as we pay apart from an Amazon prime subscription. K.

"Broadband is a 4 letter word for me. I got this mad idea of changing supplier, in September last year. There wasn't really anything wrong with my current supplier, I just wanted a change. Found a good deal, arranged the switch, then got a very good offer from my current supplier that I took. And that was the beginning of my troubles! The current provider kept insisting the supplier I was switching to did not do the full switch, they were sending me from pillar to post, as well as insisting they never sent the offer letter. Also, that they couldn't start my new contract as the line still had switch request on it. In the end, I got absolutely fed up and went for a different supplier, or at least tried. I got through the home installation (full fibre) only to be told there is no outside connection to the network! As I live in a block of flats, and I rent a flat, they need permission from the landlord to dig. That was 3 months ago, I'm still waiting! Luckily, still have internet though may not be for long as my previous supplier already closed my account, supposedly, even though they weren't supposed to. So good luck, OP, hope your switch will go seamlessly. " Like Southern77 mentions above, look into 3 and their 4G/5G wi-fi routers. No external connection required! Unpack the unit from the cardboard box, put it on a window sill and plug in. Two minutes later you've got wi-fi! I switched to this from virgin a couple of years ago, got a better connection at half the price.

As a video gamer though, I could do with steady speeds, and wasn't sure 3 could offer me that. But once my patience runs out (nearly there), I will look into mobile WiFi. Thank you.

"I have been a ‘loyal’ Sky customer for 25 years … but they constantly sting me and don’t care … unless I actually terminate, only then do they seem to try to offer me allsorts. I’m sooooooo pissed off with them now. I’m seriously contemplating moving Virgin .. they seem to offer me about 50% of my current spend … and will give me WiFi throughout the house, which I don’t currently have. Incidentally, I live in an area that isn’t currently serviced by sky fibre …. but Virgin say they can offer me this!!! …. Hmmm, are they promising something they cant deliver! Interesting comments about Virgin here. R xx" Yes they are. Virgin never has operated via BT & Openreaches next work. I have switched from Virgin to BT twice over the decades and you will find that they will have a separate box on the wall. Virgin is the only comms provider that BT will not train up. Itsas' similar to gas and water, two lots of pipe work that my go to the same address and room, but never ever the twain shall meet.
