We've been a few times and love it.

It depends what you want to do. There's all the typical tourist stuff in Funchal, including the gardens in Monte reached by cable car, the wicked basket rudes, CR7 museum, 3D museum, fruit and fish market etc.

Further out there's Nuns Valley, the Levadas and those funny houses the name of which I can't remember.

Funchal old town has some great bars, restaurants and coffee shops.

I recommend a trike tour.

Oh and don't buy fruit at the fruit market its a rip off but it looks lovely.

For drinks try poncha and to eat try scabbard fish with banana.

Don't skip leg day, it's all uphill

. Don't do that. I usually really dislike landing but the second time we went I looked out of the window during, it was fascinating.

We'd go back in a heartbeat.
