Oh god, what I have missed dating.

From the land of haribos.

I havent been dating for a long time and it isnt from now that I am getting back into it again and loving it.

I have already dated 3, one french, the other dutch and hungarian. I have 2 more dates lined up this month, one who is irish and swedish too.

It seems that walking dates are very popular now, which I enjoy as well. I was a bit nervous at the beginning that I wouldnt have so much to say, but the conversation flowed really good with all of them, with the french one. I tested my french, she was really impressed.

That got me thinking, do you like dating and are you also into vanilla dating, what was the nationality of your last date? I am becoming a serial dater

I use local facebook dating groups, where you make a post saying what you are looking for and then some reply to it too

Pleased to hear you’re putting yourself back out there Shag. Enjoy yourself 🍻

Doing family stuff still sounds fun but in a different way.

I used to have a platonic friend who was my theatre buddy. But he moved away from London and left me in the lurch! So I guess I'm looking for that too.

Oh absolutely! Family stuff can be fun. We don't get to do things like zoos and theme parks etc, our ND kids don't cope well.

Aww no, I feel this. I have a best friend who moved far away too, and she's the only one of my friends group who enjoys days out 🙈 She's visiting this weekend, and we have beach plans. So fingers crossed for the weather... it is Wales! 🤣

I've tried other apps and saw lots from here on them using the same pics.

It's the same pool of folk all over.

Here at least you can be open, up front, about things 'vanilla' dating takes weeks to reveal.

And tbh the poolwater is just as murky and risky no matter which jetty or shoreline you launch from.

I've had a fair few unpleasant characters to sidestep and the followers of the Alpha mentality telling me if I don't like them then either I'm broken or a lesbian or whatever else they can throw down.

It's exhausting running on the hamster wheel of positivity so these days I'm actually just happy with my status quo.

I've a lovely bunch around me and I'm not looking for more than I have the energy for on any given day. Protect your peace lovelies

After being happy single for a couple of years I was actively dating from last autumn up til a couple of weeks ago. I find it mentally/emotionally exhausting, not gonna lie.

Going through the talking stages over and over again. Going on dates that lead nowhere. I am quite upfront about being a swinger and not wanting monogamy because it's better to be honest and not waste time if that's a no for people, but then that attracts men who think I just want to fuck (that's what I use fab for! Durr). Or I am told I'm "intimidating" because I like sex and know what I want. I think I scare men off or I just find them boring. So I've given up on it again.

I'd rather be single having great sex without commitment than settle into a relationship I'm unfulfilled in for the sake of not being single. I don't mind my own company, I'm fucking awesome.

All of my recent dates have been British but that's just how it worked out rather than a active choice.

I agree with the dating pool or rather cespit. I've tried dating from this site and met with only emotionally unavailable men who'd rather play with your emotions than be honest with you.

Dating can be a bit of a misleading notion I think. You have a notion of what it'll look like or feel like and it's easy in life to self-limit with a mindset of 'I'll be happier if/when...'. You work away like a demon towards that and the goalposts keep moving. Happiness forever JUST out of reach.

Meanwhile actual real life and accessible fun & joy pass us by right under our noses.

We have to enjoy today, savour it.

I stopped all notion of wanting a traditional partner when I realised I was steering myself straight back in to the very same scenario that I had finally escaped by divorcing my ex

It's such a lighter feeling and there's so much less pressure to just be free from it all.

If I have a person I savour them today. No worry for next year. Then be thankful for them and look ahead again.

Well, that's how I feel today, this week, this month. The future's a great big blank page

Ok, that is bad.

Mine was a “single” woman. Turns out her boyfriend had cheated on her and she was looking to get even by meeting me. She was hysterical, in tears for over an hour, told me she was being taken to court because she was refusing to take her 8 year old son to school and that she was suicidal.

When I expressed my concern about her own safety, given what she had just said she got angry and started insulting me.

I don’t bother dating now, it’s just a nightmare, I’d rather meet someone organically than on a dating site etc.

However I’m part of all the dating apps. And getting casual sex has become extremely easy now, unfortunately it’s like a commodity, and a sexed up idiot like myself just gets addicted to them, weirdly temporarily moving back home has given me a bit of a respite from them.

But in all honesty, a newly single 40+ year old like myself, dating just seems like hard work

Even as an older guy , I still do a bit of online dating ..a mix of good , average and bad.

Here is a Polish meet from a month ago...we do a bit of texting , she says her English is not great .but her texts are decent enough...we go for a coffee and cake meet...after about 2 mins she gets her smart phone out for Google translate to chat ( obviously she has been using that for her texts to me)

I try to be enjoying this as we pass her phone back and forth.

We then go for a walk in a nearby park...sit down on a bench...I say something ,but she doesn't understand...she gets her phone out...but oh dear..there's no internet connection ....so it just goes from bad to worse and we say our goodbyes.

London

Me and my husband met on an app. We were both fed up with dating and when we met each other it felt like coming home. 10 years later and we still have the same feeling.

Avoid meeting her mother for as long as you can.

"Oh I like dates. Not so much first dates though, my brain is always overthinking and consciously analysing everything. I like it a few dates in when the brain goblins have chilled out some.

The majority of people I date are British. Not out of deliberate choice, I just live in an area with next to no diversity. I'm genuinely surprised if I see a person of colour in my city, and the eastern European community seems closed to me as a whole.

I have dated a Hungarian and a Czech girl in years past, and a fuck buddy I haven't seen for a while is Italian. My last monogamous relationship was with an Irishman.

But yeah, mostly just plain Brits in the border cities 💜"

Hi _reytothefairies, yes, that is good you like dating, yes it also depends in what area one lives in too

I’ve definitely missed dating. Getting to know someone on a personal level and them doing the same. It’s quite refreshing.

Aww Shag this is brilliant to read! I hope you continue having many more successful dates that bring you the happiness you so richly deserve.

I adore dating. Going on dates. The ritualistic element of getting ready, the different things to do, the flutterflies, the excitement of seeing someone for that first time. Learning them as the date unfolds. It's incredibly rare I've had a bad date, I think I'm really quite lucky.

I've been on dates with people as mixed as me, various nationalities. The last person I went on a first date with would be someone from a far warmer country than here.

Something came to my mind I'd completely forgotten about. There used to be a dating thread on here where you put your name down to match with someone purely for a date. I ended up going walking in the Derbyshire dales, to a museum/art gallery and I even went to the zoo for the day with one guy. They were great. I'd forgotten all about them
