They're not with me anymore but my grandparents had a huge impact on my life and I wouldn't be who I am without them. I was broken when they died, but with time you learn to live differently without them.

That's lovely. I don't have memories of any of my grandparents but I am envious of anyone who has!

Not to be a prat and spoil the vibe here but I try to leave no 'thank you' unsaid.

I hope to always appreciate the folk that matter to me.

I tell them I love them and all the good things as often as is natural for whoever it is.

No song unsung

Definitely doesn't spoil any vibe! I wish more people appreciate the people they love and care about.

Just to add... the reason for the thread is that my poetry prompt for this week is praise. Who or what am I thankful for?

I don't want to write anything too mawkish so I've ruled out my children and also possibly my dog.

I'm thinking of writing a thank you to all the fuckbois I've encountered over the past year?

I'm also considering writing a poem about a new musical obsession. Or about the song I listen to when I feel sad?

The person who sold me this massive tub of jelly beans that I'm eating right now?

I'm struggling for gratitude in my life right now. I need the inspiration.

You're all a bunch of saps, aren't you? I'm loving this ❤️

...If I wrote a poem about my first boyfriend it would go something like thanks for coming down my throat without warning when you knew it was my first time, that was a real life experience.

Gonna go something different here.

I’d thank my younger self, for not giving up. She went through a lot, she almost gave up a few times, but each time she managed to find the strength to pull through. And I never would have experienced the rest of the life that I have, without her.

Two letters, one I never wrote, one I wrote earlier this year.

To my late mother and father, who persevered through 5 miscarriages to bring me into the world, and did the best for me they possibly could.

To my oncologist (and his team) who's care and attention saved my life.

I'm very lucky to have many people in my life I'm very thankful for. Past and present . Memories and lessons alike.

However I'm going to say my dog. She's been through so much but shes just the sweetest girl with the purest heart who loves unconditionally.

While I may have rescued her , she rescued me too.

We should all be a little more Mayhem. 🐕

We don't deserve dogs. They are pure love and joy. I couldn't write a poem thanking my dog. He's the love of my life and I'm nothing but dramatic in my adoration of him.

Same! Found my little Rue abandoned. Vet reckoned at the time she was about 5 weeks old and probably wouldn’t make it. Agreed to foster and take on whatever costs it took to make her better… almost 2 years later and the little demon is my heart 🥰 funny how such a serendipitous moment can change everything

My fwb. She has shown me things I never thought I'd experience sexually and also challenged me mentally to make me much more tolerant and accepting of other people's life choices. I now challenge others who used to be like me She is beautiful inside and out and I thank my lucky stars that we crossed paths

I'm thankful for my siblings especially my sisters who have been the people who I relied on when I too young to look after myself.

We're a close knit family and our bonds have fed down into the next generation, so I am close and affectionate with my nephew's and niece's. What a great family to be part of.

I was born lucky, with my parents being the people they are, but it’s Ailsa who I would thank, have thanked and do thank. She saved my life, with her kindness, patience and total support. I don’t know what I did in a past life, but it must have been saintly.

Oh you. Honestly, I feel like a monster when you write things like this and my feeble attempt at gratitude towards others right now is that I bought 14 ebooks in the Kindle sale today because the 1st of the month is when the new month deals roll over....

I wouldn’t wish the extremes of my life on anyone, but without those experiences I wouldn’t have the sense of gratitude and peace that I have now. There’s a lot to be said for the little things. I’m also deeply thankful for the authors who have influenced my life. I am the boy that books built ☺️

Gratitude and peace. That sounds fucking amazing. In all seriousness, I'm thinking of either writing a poem thanking the man who reintroduced me to poetry and told me I'm fantastic. Or maybe I'll write a thank you poem for this house. As I'm about to say goodbye to it. I think even in my gratitude I'll throw in a hint of melancholy.

Melancholy is a valuable theme for a poem about gratitude. You cannot appreciate light without some experience of darkness ❤️

I'd say my grandad, I don't know my dad and he filled in the father figure role for me. Helped brought me up and also helped me out with all sorts. Money for a new car, tips on how to repair cars, do DIY stuff in the house so I'm not forking money out.

He sadly has cancer and I don't think he will make it to Christmas this year. But I have my memories and nothing can take that away.
