"They are permanent ones Diamond,18 months of permanent and then 2 more years of a retainer at night so its a big responsibilty for him to look after his teeth while they are on too Its going to be really weird for him at first Ill tell him not to take bras off with them though,he'll think that funny " Well tell him when they come of all the girls will be after him, seems like an age when there young but its quite cool for teenagers to wear braces these days unlike when i had them and looked like metal mickey

"My son is having braces fitted in a few weeks.......the ones that look like train tracks I have a list of do's and don'ts for him but has anyone got any other advice if their children or even themselves have had them xxxx" Our daughter has them, if you can get hold of the disclosing tablets that turn your teeth pink if they havent been cleaned properly they are a help to show him where he needs to clean better it helps for when they come off as the teeth can become stained. Dont know if you have been told to get the little brushes for cleaning under them but you can get dental brushes (look like mini pipe cleaners with a handle) from most supermarkets. Oh and good luck with getting him to cut down on chewing gum and toffee along with all the other banned substances

"Yeah the bottom ones went on first and she found those the most painful as they were the first lot fitted, there is some dental wax you can get to smear over the brace until the inside of the mouth toughens up as they can be prone to ulcers. I used to give her some paracetomol at night when they were really painful. The top set went on a few months later but as she is prone to not cleaning her teeth properly (which is why we got the tablets) the bits that go on the individual teeth kept slipping off. She hasnt found the top set as painful until they tighten them and then only for a couple of days but found ice cream and yoghurt was what was called for at those times to cool the gums down a little. " Im stocking up on the paracetamol and ice cream then,my son will have the bottom set fitted first too so your advice has been really helpful xxx
