Distraction. I used to go to my mum's for tea and a chat. I'd never tell her my problems though.

She's gone now, so I try to spend time with other family members as much as possible.

Time, no other way, you'll find yourself thinking less and less then realise you haven't thought about them for a week or more

I’m a bit of a cold fish, I forget about whatever it was/is that broke my heart pretty damned quickly. I can’t be arsed with all that crying malarkey.

It/they become a distance memory in very short order.

Same for me, took exactly three weeks for me to get over the end of my marriage.

I get introspective and examine mistakes made and choices on my part.

A lot of the time I conclude I shouldn't have indulged in the first place.

Ideally, therapy would be useful to iron out childhood issues and avoid repeating patterns. (For me.)

chalk it up to life experience and take the knowledge from that as an advantage ... one door shuts more doors present themselves going forward in life ..

its a frame of mind if you choose to allow yourself to be mournful for too long over things that have passed / happened .

Choose going forwards in life its much better than dwelling on the past

Depends on the reason for the heartbreak.

Romantic heartbreak? Have a good cry, listen to sad songs, cry some more, indulge in self pitying behaviour for a bit, then start playing strong women music (like Lizzo!) and raise yourself (and your broken heart) from those ashes like a majestic phoenix and fly high once more!

🦅

That's actually a good one too unfortunately you can't do that 24/7

Clean your phone of reminders...photos, messages, delete phone numbers, calender reminders....

Crying is such a useful response. It turns out the body creates different tears for different reasons. The ones for upset contain diferrent chemicals than those for something in your eye. So if you feel the need to cry, lean into it.

Also music. I didn't feel like eating when I was heartbroken. I lost a stone in three weeks 😬

We all come into this world through pain, and it is pain not happiness which build us. Why does anyone need to ‘get over it’? Feel it. Sit with it. It is building you and you will be a new, bigger version of yourself when it subsides

But you can re-program the brain and choose to work towards positivity. It's not an instant fix mind.

I never get over it. Even when I instigated it. I leave a piece of myself in every one and take a piece with me. But hold no grudge and cherish what you had.

That's why it's easier to engage here than in the vanilla world.

Be happy with yourself always.

Feel what you need to feel, look after yourself and when you’re ready to then you can begin to heal. Until then it’s all feelings and hard to see any light xxx

You know, I know and like Pickles … our friendship was a slow burner but I really grew to like him a lot.

I am truly flabbergasted at the comments that some forumites who are popular on here and apparently who always come up as “kind” and “nice” are making -such passive aggressive comments. I am truly gobsmacked.
