Have we got any Ninja plumbers on the board, perhaps?

I've a mixer tap in the bathroom that despite removing a grub screw. Looks to not want to undress itself. As I can't figure out how to get to either the cartridge or the rubber washer to replace it.....as currently it's dripping like....well a tap. Which is close to being water boarded....being a tight arse on a water meter.

The other problems I have with the same sink, and I haven't got a Scooby on dis...is the chrome plug. Nope it's not one of those types of plugs. Though, it must be caked in something that is white and lime-scaley.

I'd like to remove it from the sink, but no clue as how to even start on that one. Not urgent as with copious amounts of viakal. Seems to be just about working, much like myself.

Any help much appreciated. (Can provide pics of the tap/plug if you might be able to help.)

Spray with white vinegar and leave overnight.

As for the tap your description is pretty vague.

But it could be:

Maybe a ceramic cartridge?

The tap might need reseating if it's a regular washer where imperfections in the brass allows it to wear uneven resulting in small grooves,needs a little tool to grind down.

Failing that bin it ,get new taps. Can go wrong with Bristan.

Many thanks. I've already sprayed it with both WD40 and Viakal....but nothing wants to move to give me an idea of how to access the internals of the tap.....I think I will do as you say and spray and leave. Sounding suspiciously like a Panda there.

Many modern taps apart to be designed as 'disposable' unfortunately, so they're almost impossible to maintain.

Easiest way is to replace them.

I had a similar issue while back. I was told some taps you

can't repair as they are single solid units and just have to replace.

I've no idea how to get to the underside of the sink to get to the nuts that holds the taps on: There's a cover underneath the sink that has a sealant around the edges....so you can't even get to anything under the sink...including the plug and u'bend/pipework.
