Non sexual question here chaps. Would any guys with abs be willing to let me know how you achieve them? Is it sit ups, planks, cardio? So many different methods online but I’d like to know what’s your best tips.

So you don’t exactly train abs, you just focus on the cardio and diet?

I lift weights. Rarely do I train my abs directly. Admittedly I built my core by getting good (competition level) at the basic powerlifting lifts. Squats, bench press and deadlifts. With a lower body fat percentage they are more visible.

There's plenty of techniques and workouts, plenty sources out there. Whatever exercise that works your core that you find enjoyable works since you don't want to do a certain exercise that you don't enjoy because you'll lose motivation. Low body fat percentage helps with definition but that requires calorie restriction depending on your physiology. Cardio only goes so far because you can do cardio until you turn blue in the face but if you don't restrict your calories intake and continue with an unhealthy diet you won't lose that body fat. Also cut down on the alcohol massively. It's okay to have a drink or two on occasion but ideally you shouldn't drink at all to achieve your desired results.

There's a saying..."abs are made in the kitchen ". You can train your abs directly if you want to strengthen your core, but you won't have visible abs unless you have a low bodyfat percentage, which is achieved by diet. Even cardio is not technically required although it might help you burn fat a bit faster - but you do cardio exercises to strengthen your heart and improve your cardiovascular performance.

Do fewer reps of ab workouts and do more reps of putting the fork down

I put the fork down, but then can't put down the Ferrero Rocher down...

I’ll help keep the balance, homemade cookie instead of Pringles. The view is pretty good though

That feels like hard work, Joe.

My alternative plan is to lobby the tech companies for a personal filter on my phone which makes any pic of a washboard stomach look a little squishier so I feel less like a sloth.

Mine are definitely made in the kitchen.

It's why I haven't seen them in a long while. Damn you Ben and Jerry. 🤷‍♂️

not always the case some people can just sit around with abs and others have to work hard to get them. Usually down to diet though

Aim to be in it for the long haul. Fast weight loss tends not to be as readily sustained as progressive loss. I'm assuming that you have some weight to lose. Certainly, if you can reduce your body fat, potentially so that your muscle percentage in your body is relatively higher, then your muscle that's hidden beneath your top fat layers, will become more evident.

There's never a way to target fat loss in a specific place - your body will do its own thing. Men tend to carry fat around their stomachs, so it will shield your abs from clear view.

Many women are not crazy about needing men with washboard and! I'd encourage you to look at your overall health, rebalance your body proportions of fat : muscle whilst ensuring your body confidence is good

If I get really strict with my diet my abs get more visible into a six pack. If I just eat a relatively healthy high protein calorie controlled diet then I get what you see in my pics.

As far as exercise, I lift weights a couple of times a week. But it's the diet that is the key.

Not been for years but a decent gym routine is essential - not even to train, just for consistency. Missing a day I always found it harder to get into the day I went back.

Good posture - your core should be engaged in near ever exercise, get as full range of movement, slowing something down is often harder no matter the weight. Adding twists, extra plates and inclines into things is easy and strengthens obliques shaping your core.

I remember there's small things outside of the gym like off-balance carry. Essentially weight (bag/shopping/heavy item) in one hand, with nothing in the other meaning your core doing most of the work.

Photoshop mate. Easy-peasy!!

I might create a before/after style real/fake photo to show how easy some could pull this off!
