Reading

Just been watching the news and they were reporting on the continuing strike action by refuse collectors in the Birmingham area. Local residents were complaining of seeing rats the size of cats. So Birmingham fabbers, how bad is it? Have you seen a rat?

On the flip side I've seen videos of people dropping off bin bags of rubbish to specifc areas and piling it up to make it look worse... two sides to every story.

In areas where people actually look after the litter and do their rubbish right it's totally fine.

I went to Birmingham last November and areas of the city were clearly dumping grounds for litter and all sorts. City is in real decline sadly. Only other City I saw which were as bad was Bradford. The people in charge of Birmingham should be arrested as they've clearly neglected the City.

Cannock

I haven't lived there for 7 years but there was a bin strike before I left and entire districts just REEKED! We lived but far from the municipal tip so we were the first to get cleared and it still took a fortnight.

There was a general consensus down the street that bags should be piled on the corners of the cul de sacs that led off our road.

It was generally just disgusting though.

Rats, like all mammals, are subject to genetics and evolution. They're not going to be able to grow significantly larger than their genes will support them to. They will evolve but, whilst they can reproduce very quickly compared to humans, they won't have had more than one generation during the strike. Certainly, they may have been able to gorge themselves on waste but their bodies are just going to be large and not akin to a larger species.

I drive through the greater area regularly and have appreciated not having bin lorries on the road there

It must be unpleasant for residents though, perhaps, people are adjusting to not being as wasteful with food there now.
