Photos of Yourself and Body Confidence

Do you find taking photos/videos of yourself helps or hurts your body confidence?

I don't take many naked photos but did a video last week and noticed I'd put some weight on the wings. On one hand it made me feel rather 💩 but since then it's motivated me to up my exercise and watch my snacking.

Has your experience of looking at your own body been positive or negative ?

I almost take the types of photos I upload here to combat how I feel about my body. In every single photo I've uploaded there's something in it that I dislike about my body. And sometimes it helps when I upload it anyway - just for myself because this is what my actual body looks like! - but also for the positive feedback that I get from them (usually)

Next Door

I dont like the way my body looks and never has done. No confidence.

I am working out 3-4 times a week and getting in better shape.

As for being naked in pictures or seeing my reflection, if i can hide the areas I don't like at all then, it's easier. Naked on a beach, well I just don't look at me.

Taking pictures, does help but I take 100 to get 1 nice one.

In the past I've trusted 1 or 2 other people to take pictures, and that has helped with my confidence. They have helped me to pose.

It doesn't help.

Previously I've felt like I've projected an unrealistic image of myself, then I put off meeting people as I know I won't live up to that image.

I'm very self critical, what I would see as attractive in someone else, I hate it in myself.

I find fab very disingenuous and nothing means anything on here, which I think kind of re-enforces what I think about myself.

Anyhoo, I'm going for a zero photo approach these days so as not to do all that!

Yes it’s helped my confidence, I take many pics to get just one decent one that I’m willing to share and on the odd occasion I’ve actually looked at it and thought yes I look good, didn’t know I looked like that.

I bin any that I don't like and concentrate on the ones I do. Overall the photos that are taken of me maintain my confidence in how I look. Sometimes I wonder how I got so old and start religiously applying serum at night.

I feel similarly to this. When I first joined and started posting pics of myself I hated looking at them and it was more a "here I am, this is all of me and what you're getting" incase people met me and were disappointed when they saw me IRL or thought I'm a catfish. I had absolutely zero body confidence and hated the way I looked.

I still don't like how I look, but being on here over the years and going to clubs has made me realise that some people do find me attractive and I can accept that some people find me sexy, and it has helped my confidence. When people say nice things about my photos it makes me feel nice, I can't pretend otherwise. And after years of being made to feel ugly and unattractive as a younger girl a little boost is nice.

I also got better at taking pics. For every photo I post though there's 50 I've taken and deleted. I'm extremely self critical. Before I meet people I tend to send them a selfie of me with minimal/no make up like "here I am, this is what you're gonna get, you can run away now before it's too late"

I can't say it makes a big difference but I wouldn't post them if I felt in anyway negative about them.

I've never been overly confident about my body and even to this day don't take my shirt off in public and I'm not entirely comfortable in a swimming pool environment.

Taking pics when I first joined fab was a necessary evil but it has only been in the last 5 or 6 years that I've enjoyed taking them and I don't give much thought to how others view them

For every photo I show on here there's at least 100 others I delete because I hate.

I hate how I look in photos and in reality most of the time. Even more so if someone else takes the photo .

I see every flaw , every ounce of extra weight, every line or stretch mark and it can make me feel really rubbish.

However for the photos I do show, I show them as the best of a bad bunch and because I feel a little better that others don't see the things I do.

I have had professional photos taken a few times and every time I've felt that horrible feeling of disgust for how I look and it takes me weeks to get past that enough to learn to appreciate the moments they captured instead .

This isn't a pity post by the way I'm not looking for compliments. It's just how I've always felt .

I think having been a naturist all my life solidified my body confidence mindset. We are all different and beautiful in our own ways. Unfortunately we are also our own worst enemy regarding judgement and comparison of ourselves to others. Ive raised my family to be naturists and I'm very happy to have body confident youngsters

I've slowed down taking photos recently as I like less and less of them. I THINK I look better in person than in a photo as you get my personality, face and stature balancing out the imperfections.

As with you Leo, it can show you what you need to work on, and most women get some decent fabbage on here as there are so many men into all different(any at all sometimes) women. So it can be a positive.

My photo from November 3rd is what ignited my change in perception of my appearance. I've taken some other photos before in my life that made me feel good, but they didn't have the effect of changing my perception until that one was taken. From there I started to see myself in a different light. And then other photos that were taken after that gradually worked on my confidence.

Sometimes a single photo and the right shot can change someone's life.

Yes the feedback aspect is another part of how we feel about ourselves. I'm sure most women get more compliments than most men but maybe harder to say if they are authentic? I tend to believe the good feedback I get but quite possibly it's just kindnesses to the elderly 🤣

For us we mainly like taking pictures to show the other what we see if that makes any sense, we find each other sexy as so we want to show the other what we are seeing and we upload the ones that come out nicer haha but we never really sure if our pics are good or not but it's nice when people compliment them for sure. It's not a source of confidence but does make you feel good if you feel a picture is nice and other think so too, however we are under no delusion that we are the shit that's for sure haha

We are really bad when it comes to fabs as we see pics we find hot but don't fab them (no idea why it's just not habit) so just because your not getting fabs or as many as mayhe you might like definitely doesn't mean people don't like them

However I always notice when I put on weight. I can be a very harsh critic and I do tend to focus on my flaws. It does motivate me though (among other things)

I barely have any awareness of how my body looks, and I don’t much care. I do care however about how strong and mobile I feel, especially now I’m pushing 50. So health is something I’m aware of, but looks hardly feature in my thinking. I also have a strong passion for the aesthetic quality of a photograph. When I feature myself, I’m not really thinking that it’s me, I’m playing the role of the model, and my focus is on the quality of the whole image, not just how I look within it. I don’t know if that makes any sense

Coming out gave me a huge body confidence boost, completely unwarranted but I don't care. I like my body, enhancements and all, now and I'm not afraid to show it off - with nice lingerie and club outfits.

Naked is tricky. I'm big, I know that, there's a heck of a tummy and showing it off in all n it's glory is something I have to really build up to.

I took and uploaded my first ever properly naked photo last week and I think it looks ok but it took a while to convince myself to put it out there in the world.

I like me, lumps and bumps and all. It's convincing everyone else that's the problem.

To start with, it absolutely helped my body confidence as I hadn't taken photos of myself before Fab and the really nice feedback only reinforced that which motivated me to keep taking photos, although I know that trying to find validation from others is bad!

Occasionally though, I do go through peaks and troughs where I think I look like shit and trying to take a good photo only enhances that feeling if I can't get an angle I like but it does tend to pass

I prefer video over photos as how someone looks is as much about how they move, occupy space, as anything else. True of how I feel about myself.

I think we can all suffer from a little body dysmorphia when taking pics. Especially with so much of social media pushing a drive for perfection.

Sometimes I take a pic that looks like shit 🤷🏻‍♀️ Can’t say it knocks my confidence though. But then Im very body confident, love my curves, and will not be put off by a bad angle 😊anyway. I’d say I’m motivated more if I feel lethargic, or meh, than what a pic says. Fuck the cameras.

Maybe not literally. Certainly not without lube 😅

Since joining fab and posting my first blurry pictures I have definitely blossomed.

I enjoy thinking about & taking the pictures. It’s like a whole story for me.

I’ve always been confident enough about my body.

But these days - I’m truly happy in my own skin. Not in an arrogant way. Just genuinely body confident.

(Still not a fan of my face though. I’m working on that)

It's a bit of a mix.

I like the way I look in the pictures I post enough to post them, but there are lots that never reach the site because I don't like what I see.

Sometimes I can look at pictures of myself and tell myself I look ok..others, I'd happily delete the lot.

For the most part, hugely positive. These past 4 years have transformed my body confidence.

I’ve also learned that people can and DO fancy plus size, actually more people than I ever realised. What a boost that has been.

I have fully embraced it and if anything my photos are sexier as a result, which makes me view them more positively.

I hate the way my body looks after having my daughter and although I have weeks where it's ok, mostly it disgusts me. 🤮🤮

My pictures on here are posed or angled to avoid my insecurities so the positive feedback lifts me for a short while, until I remember they only show what I wish to show.

Mainly positive. Like many ladies, i have good days and bad days, plus the odd melt down when things don’t fit or look as good as i’d hoped.

We are all our harshest critics, and even though hubby is uber supportive I often think he is obliged to say nice things; but on here I get the odd compliment just for the sake of it., from people who owe me nothing. Which can be nice when without an ulterior motive.

I rely on angles lighting and cropping to try and make an image look anything remotely close to the genuine hot-blokes who can just point the camera and look like an Athena poster!!

Angles and lighting are everyone's best friends.

I find complete darkness works for me.

The best kind of lighting!

🤣"

Darkness doesn't work for me. My near-translucent skin gives of an ethereal glow

I feel like this. Mine is nothing special. But I do like my body and work hard to maintain it.

"Do you find taking photos/videos of yourself helps or hurts your body confidence?

I don't take many naked photos but did a video last week and noticed I'd put some weight on the wings. On one hand it made me feel rather 💩 but since then it's motivated me to up my exercise and watch my snacking.

Has your experience of looking at your own body been positive or negative ?"

I feel most people are insecure about how they look mate just some hide it better then others !

Just try less late night snacking if possible

It neither helps nor hurts, it can however raise a chuckle.

Yh I don't think I've got the best body or feel I've got the nicest face but Im also blessed to not look like Joe Merrick so I'm not the ugliest person thats been on this planet were usually stuck in our heads! I don't take selfies so it really alien but I'm putting myself out there for reason why hide myself away and expect my feelings about myself to change so I just put it out there suspenders and boxers combo and all!

I have found that this place has forced me to work on my body confidence. I didn’t really like seeing my body naked but it has made me start working on it - sorting nutrition out, going to the gym as I get older etc. I feel good about it now.

I find facing into my fears works for me - I started life modelling after Covid and that has worked wonders for body image because you realise people/artists love all shapes and sizes.

Ah. I'm sure if I eat less, I'll feel better about myself. Exactly right.

I love my photos. 😉

But the other day I looked in the mirror and saw my arms and went WTAF is that? 😭😭😭😭

So lots of upper body workouts and clean eating now! That was the kick in the arse I needed! But photo wise I can always take very flattering ones without much effort.

Resistance bands are good for upper body exercise when you're otherwise struggling to get to the gym etc.

I feel like my photos aren't a true representation of my body. I look at them and don't even feel they are me. I have a certain negative view of my body and that will never change but being on fab has made me slightly more accepting of it.

Si, amiga! I got some heavier dumbbells now as well. I have a lot of shoulder pain, might have been from bad posture/being bedridden for 2 months, I have some resistance bands … mustering the oomph I need to start my workout now 🥱

I like taking photos of myself as a way of seeing progression/regression.

Sometimes I'll see a pic of me and go "Jesus, I'd fuck me" and other times I go "ooooh good lord, kill it with fire"

Got very few pics of me I'm truly happy with. But that says more about me and my mindset than anything else

Currently in the process of trying to lose belly fat so watching the calories, but some days I think I look good! specially after doing a gym workout, while other days I look awful.

But noticed a lot of people who go gym and look great! often don't like the way they look.

I think like most people I take 100 pics for one good one but that’s mostly down to angles. Taking pics and posting has definitely helped my body confidence over the last few years along with a steady weight loss…….i really just need to master the art of a selfie now to get a good face pic! Xx 😄

Exactly this Could have wrote this myself (if I wasn't too lazy to type) and the selfie point, spot on! 😂

It’s so hard, I genuinely cannot find an angle for a face pic that I’m happy with! 😄

You can use camera angles to help. We go in a club, look around and think "we're actually not too bad".

Involves a lot of looking silly in front of the mirror and still no luck

100’s of pics or a video for screen grabs just to get one I like.

It has helped with the confidence though so it’s been worth the effort

I take crap pics and have never felt confident in my body

I think we all over self criticise and actually if we just took a few mins or looked around as another poster has already said - we would think actually I’m not that bad

The screen grab tip is a great one! Easy way to find/make some good photo's, but I do sometimes watch the video cringing thinking, "fuck, do I really look like that dumpster fire?!?" 🤣
